Default Cowstle Wilderness Area

Cattle liners dropping off cattle in the Castle Wilderness Area now.
Also cattle in the area being herded in there too.
The NDP is going to clean up this area.
Seem to be dragging their feet on this practice.

So thousands of cattle can roam free and destroy the land? But my gsp now has to be tied up on a leash no longer than 2m at all times? Get bent Phillips and ndp. They took a lot of land from albertans for her own personal agenda. Still furious over it!!

Come on, cattle aren't hard on the land, they reduce the amount of grass that would be a fire hazard if just left. thank them.

Cows do more damage to creek banks than ATV's

I'm not totally against cattle being there. It was and still should be a multiuse area. If the ranchers can have cattle, then I should also be able to random camp, hunt, ride atvs, harvest firewood etc. And dammit my dog should be able to be off leash in an area that's over 100000 hectares.

Was back through there on the weekend and it is like a ghost town in that zone. Hardly any trailers, the NDP's plan is working. Sad to say the least.

The cattle are used as a replacement for the buffalo that used to graze and fertilize the soils. When the buffalo were gone the whole ecosystem was disrupted as far as soils. The elk around Suffield are there for the same reason. To put something back into the soils and ecosystems. Because buffalo and to a lesser extent the elk were the keystone species that influenced the whole environment including plant and animal.

Besides...If the buffalo were still there no one would be able to use the 'Cowstle' area because the buffalo themselves would keep you out.

If the buffalo were still there at least we wouldn't have to drive 10 hours north to hunt one. Or wait years for the draw...

If it was just you it would be ok...it's the thousands of others that make it hard to manage. Cattle are easier to manage.

Just saying, not overly serious....

Maybe that part of the province should capitalise on the cattle industry. Leather products, powder horns and toothpicks from the hooves. Could become the leader in the world's international beef jerky taste tours.

Some tourists pay big money to play cowboy, saddle up and go on round ups.

Good to see those ranchers that supported Shannon finally got their kickback. Next will be the outfitters when they go to draw only hunting next year.

Wow , are you ever mistaken. The ranchers who supported Shannon P do not run cattle in the castle. Those were hand picked hacks the govt trotted out for publicity. The ranchers who have grazing permits lobbied for multi-use and declined govt requests to join "save the castle" .

Over time but that is an animal walking on or in The creeks so it's natural
