I am so sorry to hear this.

I had the true pleasure of talking with Pete for hours at a time. Always an enjoyable chat no matter the topic or our individual perspectives. He was a character.

I will miss you Pete.

Condolences to his family and friends.

I remember Peter when I was a kid working in a gun shop.

He was always a gentleman.

I know this question may be untimely, but who is currently running his business?

And Peter, where ever you are thanks for the elk hunting lessons you gave me in the store.

God Bless you.

I believe you're confusing Pete with Lloyd.
I never met the man myself but know several people that have shared a fire with him and I believe he will be greatly missed.
A person couldn't get within 5 miles of the Wilmore without hearing his name mentioned. Definitely a big presence in those hills.

RIP

What kind of comment is that Lane!! Some people. You obviously don't know who Pete is.

Tyler just finished a 21 day hunt and got out in time after killing a ram to spend a couple days with his dad before passing. Glad he got time to spend with him. I imagine Tyler will be trying to run the business until it sells or continue on with it I am not sure.

Pete was an awesome guy. I had the pleasure to work for him for a couple weeks when they needed a sheep guide in short notice. Pete is one of the last of the real mountain man sheep hunters as I see it and is part of the history of the great Wilmore wilderness. They should write a book just about him and his adventures. What a great man and he will be missed. I plan on being at the funeral if I can.

Sad day in the outfitting world, he was a true gentlemen each time I spoke with him.
My condolences to Tyler and the rest of the family.

My mistake never read close enough. I knew Pete well. Sorry for the confusion didn't mean to slap Pete. Had a hour long condo with him and Bryan Martin at the sheep show. From what I know his son is running the outfit now.

Once again my mistake, rip Pete

Thanks for sharing the video. Those two minutes reveal who Pete is.

The video also touches on a project that Pete constantly brought up in our conversations over the last couple of years. Pete really wanted to see the production of video/print material relaying the message highlighting the connections between hunting and nature, the symbiotic relationship. The message is meant to be for all, hunters, non-hunters and anti-hunters. Pete was worried that the competitive, egotistical and trophy focus found in today's hunting culture was becoming detrimental to the true soul of hunting.

Perhaps with help from the Alberta hunting community, Pete's legacy will carry on with this message.

Very sad indeed. I didn't know him well but he struck me as a very genuine person.

Think Pete was Lloyds nephew who worked for him and was part of the Great White trial and conviction. Believe he was guiding a client in the wrong zone if I remember correctly.

I believe that they were brothers, and each one had his own outfit. I have heard nothing but good about Pete, and nothing good about Lloyd.

So you are still maintaining that Pete was Lloyd's nephew, as you posted earlier?

Great video, hadn't seen that. When I met and worked for Pete, I was struck by the amount of knowledge and wisdom he had. I expected him to know a lot about hunting and the outdoors, and he did, but it went far beyond that. Its been many years now but I'll never forget the nights we sat around the campfire and listen to Pete and the clients discuss almost any topic you could imagine. He knew a lot about a lot of things, and I'm truly saddened by his passing. His spirit will live on.

Checked court of appeal document and it said in paraphrase that Pete was Lloyds nephew and that he was caught guiding a person illegally in the wrong zone.

I didn't know either of them, just going from memory so I don't know what's screwed up?

I heard, you heard, she heard, whatever.

There are facts and these are them (I don't even need Google):

Lloyd and Pete are brothers.
Pete owned and ran Sherwood Outfitters
Lloyd owned and ran (still does, kind of) Great White Holdings.
Two different companies ran by two different men. Neither wanted the other involved.
End of story.

Pete & Lois & Tyler are salt of the earth. Pete was a friend and will be missed by us and the Willmore. A lot of folks underestimated Pete when they first met him. Underneath that folksy exterior was a great mind and a bit of a philosopher.

I hope he's stalking a big ram in the happy hunting grounds right now.

I met Pete back in 2003 on a summer backpacking trip. He invited four of us to his main camp for some cherry pie and coffee, to sit around the fire and chat. At the end of that trip, he gave us a ride out on horseback, free of charge, which I would imagine would have been a hassle for anyone. I talked with him several times after that, and he was always generous with his hospitality and information, surpisingly so for an outfitter. He was a good man. Rest in peace Pete - hopefully we meet again in the sheep ranges.

Default Confusion re. McMahon

There is the possibility there are two Pete McMahons, although unlikely, or the judge may have confused the relationship inadvertently between brother and nephew.

I see no possibility that whoever Pete McMahon was in this appeal, despite the confusion, that he was not guilty of guiding a client of L McMahon illegally in the judges written decision.
