The shiny pony never misses a moment for a photo op, he is good at that.
As for never hearing of Gord Donnie, I would have asked have you ever heard of Stomping Tom Connors myself.
But, it is a sigh of the times us old farts getting older and not being able to listen to wrap or Justin Berber and knowing who it is or what it is that's playing on someone's boom box.

I quoted you for saying that you agreed X10 with the dude that was avoiding his FB page because of the onslaught of Gord Downie news. I don't care what anyone's opinion of his music, poetry, or politics are, I was curious why people who don't know, don't care, or don't like him would comment on it. Nothing personal, carry on.

In post #20 I was addressing the issue of people who haven't even heard of what is considered by many to be a Canadian icon.
Don't care whether he likes them or not.
But if you don't see the difference, so be it.

State Funeral's in my opinion are for the people that get up every day, put on a uniform of some type and defended me, my family, and keep our street's safe. Don't know his music but I am happy for him he did what he wanted to in life, because of the other's I have mention.

i commented on it because its everywhere, and i'm annoyed I cant turn around without hearing his name, hearing something he has written, or hearing about something he did. For someone that doesn't care like myself, its frustrating this guy is everywhere and its even more frustrating I cant leave the house without someone mentioning him or going about my day without his name coming up somewhere, in the media/ grocery store line /gas station/ radio/ etc. Usually I would just ignore and go about my day but this guy is talked about everywhere by everyone so you cant ignore it and the country is pushing his death as a national event with the PM crying his eyes out on TV. Its all way over the top. People like me are commenting because its all anyone is talking about right now. Insensitive maybe, but its just me venting.....sorry if I offended anyone people have the right to mourn just as I have the right to not, just wish it wasn't pushed on the whole population.

On the brighter side, it's a nice distraction from hearing about everything Trump as said / done in last news cycle.

Eata bigmeal, now there is a name I haven't heard for a long time. Reminds me of a very off colour joke I heard about her when I was in high school automotive class... lol

* I just found out she died a few years back.

Now I have lived in Canada for 75 years, been to every province and resided in Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia and if you said who is Gord Downie? My answer would have to be, "Never heard of him".

Not to be disrespectful but, maybe it's just not my generation.
My wife and me were disgusting this last night. We have a good music collection. We know of the band but never cared for their music. How many here have a collection of their music?

And that is your choice, nice to live in a free country eh

Funny how some artists touch some and not others but at the end of the day they have there style that suited some and that is a good thing.

Been to 8 of their concerts. At one point had all of their cd’s until iPods came out. Not sure where they went but I can still sing along word for word to most of their music.

I grew up with the Hip. Got me through some rough teenage years. To me, yes he/they were Canadian icons and Gord will be missed.

They had a couple of songs I really like but for the most part their music did not interest me - Downie's lyrics however did as far as the subject matter goes.
His passing was no surprise to me either , brain cancer is pretty much terminal in the majority of cases .
