Default Renting to a Farmer?

Hey everyone, I'm looking at moving to a property of about 90 acres. Would a farmer rent this out for crop? If so, what would the going rate be per acre? I'm not entirely sure how much is prepped for crop, I think around 80 acres. Ad said it currently alfafa/grass mix, and been certified organic for many years.

Thanks for advising.

Really varies depending on area. Where are you located?

Crop sharing is common. 1/3 of bales for the land owner, or =$

It'd be near athabasca, about 15 miles south.

I know sfa about farming... How many bales would one get per acre? And what's the going rate for a bale, generally speaking?

Organic land is in high demand out here. Price per acre really depends on demand and what kind of soil you have. Our you could go with crop share. Farmer gives you x% of his crop in cash. That's what iam doing this year. Good deal for both parties.

Don't expect the same percentage for 80 acres as you would for 160 acres.

Default Field work

Organic can also mean the weeds have been left to grow, and its never been fertilized, harrowed, aerated, rolled, etc

Hay fields need to be maintained, and cultivated & replanted every five years.

Best scenario for you is to have someone hay it on a share basis.

Best idea is to find someone to fence it and let their cattle in. Depends how much fencing you'd need but generally a dollar a day per cow/steer/bull. So if you can get 20 cow/calf pairs in there on decent pasture you'd be looking at 600-700 a month. You might be able to get 30 on there but it would depend on the vegetation.

Follow this website to see what hay is going for. Pasture too.

1$/AUM per day. 20$/day for Cattle.
Rent for crop land would be in some places as high as 65$/acre.
Way more money involved renting for crop.
