Default Entomology Media

i'm looking for a book on entomology for JR. something that may tie together with fly tying would be nice, if there's even anything out there like that? if anyone might know of a good one that's in depth on the subject, i'd appreciate any feed back you may have. thanks in advance.

Don't know if it's in depth enough, I have a copy of Fly Patterns for Stillwaters A Study of Trout, Entomology and Tying by Philip Rowley. Has about thirty patterns but the strength of the book is the entomology and his thoughts on tying flies for each insect. I really like that he is not married to the patterns in the book, and touches on the characteristics that he thinks are important to emulate when tying for each specific insect. Best fly tying book I have ever read. The entomology of each insect is about a page and his thoughts on tying for each insect are about a page. Got it on Amazon.

This is a book which covers more or less all of the different insects in Canada.

Illustrated with several hundreds of the best macro photographs available.

Pretty amazing piece of work from Canada's premier entomologist.

Does not include fly tying though.

worth every penny

Your question focuses on entomology and fly tying, and I am assuming fly flishing.

You can't go wrong with these two.

They are much cheaper ordering from Amazon ca. Free shipping too.

My friend Rick Passek has a couple of good books for beginners. One is the Freshman Fly Fisher. The other is the Insect Guide. You can get them from his blog at this link. http://www.theflyfishfanatic.com/201...y-good-or-bad/

The insect guide might be more what your looking for if your looking for entomology information.

I am not sure if this book is still in print or not,,

"The Complete Book of Western Hatches" by Rick Hafele and Dave Hughes is one the best entomology / angling books I have read. It covers pretty much all of the major insect groups that a trout may eat with enough entomology to give the reader a good feel for the science without being totally bogged down in technical details,,,, and provides lots of angling tips and possible fly patterns.
