Default F150? or Sierra 1500?

Jeeps been totaled, in the market for a pickup now.
Anyone with yays or nays on 2013 model Sierra or F150? I'm leaning towards a 2013 Sierra 1500 with 5.3L AFM. Anyone with experience?

my dad picked up a '13 1500. doesn't like the 6 speed, and the interior is like sitting in a car. other then that he loves it.

no shatt, like driving a 1990 f250 with a 460 cubic inch , for gas milage

my old 2000 1500 Sierra4x4 ExCab gets 2X miles per gallon than the NEW F150 eco-boast , and the GMC has 500,000 klms on the original V8 gas motor !

I'm a GM guy but find a 5 1/2 box pretty useless. Even 6 1/2 you cant close your end gate with a four wheeler in the box. Ford has the longest box in a crew cab 1/2 ton

F-150 and dont look back.

The cab space alone makes it twice the truck.

I just did a trip to Portland pulling an 18' flat deck tandem trailer, to pickup a piece of equipment. Totally impressed. I haven't driven a new chev, but the F 150 is by far, the best 1/2 ton I've ever driven.

The new GM's are very nice trucks. I think they were lacking in some upgrades behind Ford and Dodge up until about this year but the tides have turned. I would pick one of them over the Ford every time but to each their own. Find what you like best, I dont think you could go wrong with either IMO.

I have a Chevy at work and I own a 2013 F150. I have been an import owner my whole life, but I am very impressed with how the north american trucks have evolved.

I have noticed that my Ford (XLT trim) still feels really high end inside and the drivetrain is just sweet - they got the transmission set up Fantastically, the truck is NEVER flipping back and forth between gears whether towing 8000 pounds or just driving around, pretty amazing actually.

My Chevy at work on the other hand - the interior feels a bit cheap (the plastics inside just feel lighter or thinner and 'more plasticky'), the sound proofing in the chevy isn't the greatest (again just my opinion), but of all those things - the Chevy transmission is a complete FAIL. It downshifts skipping a gear a TON which is frustrating as hell, seems like it doesn't pull at all even adding throttle - no change to speed, more throttle - no change to speed, MORE throttle - no change to speed, more throttle - Truck down shifts and the rpms wind WAAAY up and then the truck lurches. The Chevy transmission just seems to be completely wrong.

This might be because of my Ecoboost in my Ford - it really has amazing low end torque and the truck never seems to need no be over 2500 RPM and has power EVERYWHERE through the band.

For the ECOboost fuel economy guys who are disappointed, I am averaging 19-21 MPG combined city and highway driving, on the highway exclusively I can make 24 easily and 27-29 if I am really smart with my driving habits.

but everything is getting better fuel economy and the new trucks should all be able to match the ecoboost as the motor is 4 years old now.

Drive both if you can but REALLY drive them and see how you like the transmissions.

both new trucks, my 2010 F150 and 2013 F150 have very noisy cabs( road noise, wind turbulence noise, thumping, rattling wiper assemblies, heater squeels at 30 below like dying cats, the front ball joints squeeked from day one like they have 300,000 kms on them, door rubbers repetitively come off when you open the doors in the morning freezing weather, tail light lens full of dirt and condensation,

the 2010 5.4 V8 wayyyy better fuel mileage than the eco-boast gas guzzler, I dont like( I hate) the 6 spd auto, shifts down on cruise, rpm pics up going down hill, gas eating POS

One thing wrong is it's a dodge. After the 2011 I bought I'll never have another.

Either way, don't go for the 2014 chevy for a while. They are having problems with them starting on fire from overheating catalytic converters and loosing all steering control....With that said, I would not hesitate to go for the 2013 chevy. They were the last year of that body style. So any problems they had in the beginning, are long since worked out. The 5.3 is a very good, proven powerplant. The F-150 eco-boost is a nice engine as well, just too new to have all the bugs worked out yet... My cousin has the eco-boost F-150 and loves the truck. He bought it brand new and it got great fuel milage for about the first 6 months. But after that, he says, it has dropped off considerably. I would say drive both of them and look at the price tag, options, warranty, etc. and decide which one works and fits YOU best. All vehicles have pros and cons, but it all comes down to what you decide upon.

If you want to get groceries and the mail the Sierra 5.3L will be fine.

if you want a "Truck" and your actually going to pull or haul things, the f150 is the truck to get. The Sierra ain't even in the same league.

To give you a hint. I've got 2009 Chevy used for oilfield construction. It's got 200000 km and a 2011 dodge used by wife to drive daily to town has. 145000km. Guess which one is wore out ? The dodge. I can't speak about Ford's but the chevs have worked good for me.

The Sierra's are great trucks. I've had them both 5.3 and 6.2.
Do not get one with a 3.08 rear axle tho.
Otherwise good strong engines and the 6.2 is a beast.
Never had a complaint with the 6 speed.

There all gas jobs, the engine and drive train are so close, if you notice a difference its bias. The more high end you get the better the inside and the sound proofing will be. My gm crew cabs has a 6 foot box never seen one with a 5.5 foot box. I like the 5 liter ford and the 5.3 liter gm both feel the same when jamming on the pedal. Fuel milage to many variables. Buy the one you like the best and you think is offering you the best price.

You base this off payload, towing and mpg? Or because you like the colour and it smells nice inside? You'd be surprised! And don't just look at the reg cab long box rating like they all advertise!

I want to like ford but I just can't, the doors rattle, the cab is noise and the stock suspension feels like a wagon! I own a '11 Sierra 1500 with 60000km and my work truck is a '13 fX4 150 with 40000km. I'm glad I own a Sierra and that's just opinion!

Well said! Ford has more gimmicks thou, stuff that will cost you when it goes wrong! Like those silly lights on the side mirrors that shine on the ground!

We use all three North American brands for work trucks in the company I work for. I have a F-150 with the 5.0. Its great. Milage is in the 15/100k range. Thats real everyday milage.I'm sure others get better/worse. Beautiful hands free system. Great stereo and a very roomy cab. Sounds great when you hammer the accelerator as well.
The GMC's are a nice truck as well. I personally find the interiors understated. That's a polite way to say it I guess.
The Dodge's are understated in the cab as well and we have had 2 engine failures pre 250K. I won't comment as I don't want the "Hemi" guys upset.
Drive them all and find one that fits you.

was a gm mechanic for 7 years, dodge for 4, toyota, kia

NEVER buy a dodge - theres a reason they're the cheapest, dont let em fool you with all the fancy do-dads

i can say i'm impressed by with the ford (only by its size), but will always buy a gm truck. they handle the best.
The chev engine is solid... theres a reason you find that block (or variation) in every V8 vehicle including the Vette ( except the cadillac Northstar which was a pos)

ive had my 01 sierra since 02 and 19k, got 255k on it now, not until dec have i put more than brakes, tires, plugs or fluid changes or a battery. been nothing less than a top.

No I base it on 2000 trucks that are owned by the same oil company (ford, chev, dodge) that different drivers beat them day in and day out. Hook on to something (trailer) with your Sierra you'll see the head lights will be in the sky.........they are low riders, good for grading the gravel roads, i guess?

like I said they are fine for car like duties such as groceries and the mail.

I am glad to own two 2014's f150's and that's my opinion.

I have a 2012 5.0L V8 F-150 and love it. Great truck. Lots of power (360 HP) and driving just over the speed limit (105km/hr I typically set the cruise on) I will get 12L/100km. Not to shabby for a pickup IMO.

All the oil companies buy all the brands, when it's gas jobs it's a calculation based on cost of maintenance vs cost of vehicle! So depending on the deal with supplier will dictate. I know I've seem companies run them all!

And as for gravel pusher gm and ford have the same clearance and gm also has a better payload capacity. Depending on model, not to mention better resale!
