Hard to believe that a 'Steward' was actually a Trade/MOC...was he the guy in the cowboy hat?

Army officers don't have them? I can't remember if any where army. Most were air with a few navy. There was 6 or so on the ship.
I think they make good money for being a waiter while the other moc's made the same. Postal clerk is another. Lol

I have a couple friends that are Stewards...including the senior Stewards for western Canada between 95 and 2000.

The Army got rid of Batmen along time ago but used to have a few Stewards around to run messes etc.
Then they turfed them to free positions for operational folks.
The Air Force ousted the Stewards a few years ago.
Now...any trade can be an Air Steward...I know one that was a PPCLI pal.
Its now a tasking not an actual profession.

The Navy has them still but they are short.

The thing with Stewards is that they are a lot more useful than people think.
They can take a mess that is losing money and turn it around in no time... they act as assistants to medical staff on ship etc.

The Army has been trying to borrow a few for their messes for years now.
They saw their bottom line and what the Navy Messes had in their coffers and knew immediately that they had made a mistake.
They are also great at running stores, accommodations, organizing events etc.

We still have Posties as well....or more correctly..they still have em... I de-mobed.

They will never get rid of Posties... they are to important...to communications and for overseas stuff.

What are you gonna do when you get out?
Back-flips out the front f.... gate Sir!

All the stewards that I knew were good guys. Most were geeky but on the ship we are all watched out for one another. The supply dept on the ship were for lack of a better word expendable. The ship couldn't fight without weapons or propulsion. They had their jobs and we had ours.
