Default Volunteer Tourism

Son wants to volunteer in Nepal for a few months teaching English to Buddhist Monks.

Pays own flight and a program fee. Gets placed with a host family providing his meals and a bed.
Anyone have any experience with this sort of Volunteer Tourism?

Not sure which organization. He mentioned it for the first time this morning during the morning commute.
I am sure more details will unfold this evening.

I don't know much about the volunteer side of things but Nepal is a great place, full of really kind people.

Did something similar a few years back. I was a pretty typical spoiled Canadian punkass kid, but came back with a huge sense of gratitude and empathy.

I can't imagine who I'd be without having gone on the trip.

Such a trip is worth it at any price.
