Default Living/Renting in Whitecourt?

Hello all.

Have a phone interview tomorrow for a PE position with Millar Western in Whitecourt. Looked on kijiji for rentals and there wasn't much there, mostly rooms for rent, not suites. I am guessing the area is booming and there isn't ever much to pick from? Not sure what the wage is at the mill, but from the prices of the few condos/apartments I did see it will take a decent chunk to afford a place there.

Also how is the place to live? Only driven past it a decade ago, so have no idea.

Thanks

In another month or so it should open up what with breakup. But yeah it's not easy finding a place to live here. Did you interview for the pulp or solid wood side?

If you get the job my cuz has his house up for sale, I think its pretty well the only one under 300. Buying maybe a better option. I hated being a renter there. To many terrible neighbors

Check out the whitecourt buy and sell page on Facebook. Usually only rooms for rent but the occasional apartments or houses come up. Room prices range from $400-$1000. Apartments seem to be from $900-$1400ish, houses the sky is the limit.

Give this place a call, they manage a very large chunk of the rental properties in town. They will add you to a list and call when places become available, but Wait times could be up to a year depending on how picky you are.

I think pay would be in around the 28-31 $ mark for a starting position at a mechanical pulp mill like millar western. Probably stingey on overtime though which can be good or bad.

The ad says they need a 4th and "part of a team providing operational repairs and maintenance services to its sawmill and planer mill operations". Tomorrow morning I find out if they will let me touch a boiler, get steam time, etc..

28-30 is what I am guessing too.

Thanks for the responses..see what the deal is tomorrow, and will keep these numbers in mind.
