Suggestions
I have been looking for a flat, faster shooting calibre. By flat and fast shooting I am talking 257 weatherby, 264 win mag, 240 Weatherby, 6mm, etc.
I am looking for something that doesn't basically share the same balistics as 7mm-08, yet still be a big game calibre.
Any suggestions?
Oddballs encouraged....

How much do you want to spend Mike? If money is no object, and odd balls are to be considered, look at the Lazzeroni Warbird platform...I like the 7.82, but they all fly pretty quick!! They will definately fit your requirements, if not your wallet......

6.5x55 may not be in the magnum class but has been used quite successfully around the world on large game animals.I have a sporterized version that is very heavy and 29 in.barroll not a nice gun to use on aday walk & hunt. but I have a K98 muaser actoin been thinking that 6.5x55 would make a nice deer, elk, black baer gun in a light wieght sport rifle but I'm not sure how well it would it would work on moose. just a thought if you want some thing diffent than the norm.

I own both the 257 Wby and the 264 Win Mag and love them both! If I had to choose between one of them I would probably go with the 264. Mainly for the fact that a person can reload it cheaper than the 257 and brass is readily available by simply sizing down 7mm brass. You can also load up to 160gr bullet in the 264 if you feel you need a little extra mass down range.
But as mentioned above, if you are into the oddball bit there are a lot of options out there!
Good luck with you search

How about the 7mm that started all the hype, 7mm Masburn Super Magnum. I hear of good things from people that own 7mm STW and 7mm RUM as well . If you want lazer trajectory with sufficient thump check em out.

Buddy in BC recently built a 25 Pronghorn (25 WSM) that he has been very impressed with. I could get you some load data if you want.
6.5-06 is appealing as well, AI or not.

Great suggestions guys....keep em coming...
Any thoughts on rifles that are readily available without doing a build?
I'm looking at 264 win mag in the Rem CDL and the 257 weatherby as well...
I was holding what I thought to be a wonderful 257 weatherby,....hmmm. can't remember the model, but it was a weatherby Vanguard of some type...MARK V ULTRA LIGHTWEIGHT sounds right...
It had a very thin fluted barrel, 26 inches I would like to say, but may have been 24.
It was stainless tarnished and damn fine,...but....
I just couldn't get a good comfortable grip on it. My wrist always felt akwardly positioned, higher than I like,..
At my shoulder, my trigger hand knuckles were almost pointing straight at the ground....
I was thinking of getting it anyway and replacing the stock....but for $1700
I think I would be a fool....

Hey, you said "oddballs encouraged".
What exactly are you thinking about? A long range rig? A dual purpose coyote/wolf and deer rifle? How much are you willing to spend?
If you are looking at the Weatherbys, have a look at the Accumark. A bit heavier, but a better stock configuration IMO, and is available in 257.

The 244 H&H Magnum - the king of .243. It can achieve the same velocity as what the 240 Weatherby can with 15 more grains of bullet.
The 257 Hot Tamale - a 100 grain bullet at 4060 fps.

There was a Rem "Sendaro" in .264 win. mag. in the classified section awhile back. Ya should have jumped on it.
I have used a Win. 70 in .264 for a lot of years and love it for longer shots.
Though I don't tend to take many longer shots.

Well, with that budget you should be able to get whatever you want. Cooper, Kimber, etc. Hell, you could almost get a new HS Precision.

You can make 257 Wby out of 7mm rem mag to make 257 Wby as well. One pass through the FL sizing die.
The 257 Wby. gets my vote. Load the 100gr. TTSX. It's been working very well for me.
