Default Poor mans ultralight

Well, I just finished my brothers lightweight. It is a factory Model 7 in 7-08, I did some metal work for him, and put it into a Wildcat stock. As it stands it weighs 5lbs 0.7oz When we started, he wanted it under 5lbs, I thought it would be no problem, and insisted on a thicker butt pad - so I may have to do a little more work to lose an ounce.

DG, I see you skeletonized the bolt handle, but left the knob intact. Any particular reason? Could you not drill/machine out the knob without any weakening? I would think the handle itself would be a much more touchy area to keep strong.

It is hard to see in the first pic, the one below should help....
I assure you strength is not an issue with skeletonizing a bolt handle/knob - at least not the way I do it.

Cool. I figured you would have shaved some weight there.

So how are you going to find/lose that 0.7 ounce? Personally I think I would give my brother a smack in the ear for insisting on the pad. But that's me.

Nice work.

I have a few ideas..... on where we can lose some more weight without too much effort. And sadly it was me who demanded the thicker pad, not him.
