Wife said no :(
Well, I walked into P&D today and saw sitting on the rack a barely used Mini-14 Target rifle sporting a Bushnell 4200 3.5-10 by 40 in silver for 899.00. Screaming deal in my opinion, I frantically called my wife and was met by the dreaded "Over my dead body, NO!" I put it on hold till the end of the day in case she changes her mind but tommorow morning the rifles fair game. Should I have bought it anyway? Which is worse, missing out on a killer deal on a gun you've really wanted or a mad wife for a week?

HeHe, I'm sure you are not alone with your dilema. However there will be other deals on guns, don't **** off the person who probably cooks , cleans and washes for you. JMO

Do like my buddy did, his wife doesn't know which guns he has or which guns he doesn't. So he went in picked up a rifle and told the guys at the counter to keep all the boxes and stuff. But, before he did this he through another rifle in the truck and said he was going shooting ( of course it was in a case so she couldnt see it ). When he returned home he just swapped cases and walked in, cleaned the rifle and put it in the closet. She still doesn't know. LOL

My wife knows of a few but some she don't. As long as she thinks she knows, if you know what I mean. You must be careful, when me and my uncle both went and got our 204's he got busted when his registration from the RCMP showed up in the mail. It's just like golf clubs for me, she doesn't know how many or what I got. Next time don't ask just walkin and put it away. Also helps that me and the old lady have seperate bank accounts.

Ummm dude...why isn't it hiding in your gunsafe right now?
My wife doesn't have a clue on what I have in my safe and that's the way I like it. You need something called a "fun" bank account just for occasions like this.
Just do it!

I wanted to buy the same gun, where is it?
Have done this a few times. I bought 5 guns last year and I think I only asked permission twice. oops. But she knows about all of my guns now just not my range finder until my kid leaks that one out too. If I were to come home with a mini14 I would be in big trouble this time so it is safe from me.
I had an uncle that kept a new bow in his truck for years and would not take it inside. Finally one day his wife said "are you finally going to bring that thing inside?" Haha
Good luck with your dilemma. If you do buy it you will have to let me know how it is.

The age long battle of spouse vs mans need for toys. What I have done is over the years I've made a bit here and there buying and selling. Add to that a bit of cash from gifts, extra jobs, and a few other sources and that amounts to my own toy account. What goes in and out of that account is my business and my better half has no problems with that. of course she does the same.
No one suffers. All bills and kids are well looked after and I can buy and sell freely as long as it only affects that account. Everybody is happy. It may take a few years but you will be amazed how much you can squirrel away using a little common sense and working a few extra hours above and beyond.
Good luck fellas this age old battle will never end

Your first mistake was asking permission. The old saying of "it is easier to ask for forgiveness then it is to ask for permission" is completely true but you did ask first so if you buy it now you are gonna be in deep ______ . That being said if you have not ticked her off in awhile I would buy it it is a great deal and really a shopping trip for some shoes and a nice diner at a restaurant (not hooters) usually goes a long way after a minor misinterpretation of the word "no" like this.

Are the kids and wife fed and housed and clothed? yes? Then buy it. That's a screamin deal.

If she's only gonna be mad for a week why didn't you get it? Such a small price to pay and from the reply's you got from this thread it won't be there tomorrow.

That's the worst option.... hide and lie about it. Ya wonder what else is hidden and lied about. Even saying "%#$# you, I'm buying it" would be better than that.
I'd say that since you (the OP) phoned your wife before purchasing, it suggests you usually consult each other on big purchases. If that is your habit it's probably her expectation. You can't ask her and then ignore what she says. Why did you ask in the first place then?

Me and my wife have an agreement that anything over a $100 gets a phone call. It sure is tough sometimes when you don't agree and you realize you just let your dream rifle at a screamin deal slip through your hands.

You frickin better be kidding, rr15. I think you are.........
Anyone who would put more priority on a gun than a relationship doesn't deserve to have any women.
To the OP, I hear ya, my wife and I consult each other on anything over a couple hunderd dollars. So far, so good, I have 9 firearms!!! She's in Mexico right now with a girlfriend. We work things out!!!

The way i see it is that there is one of two things gonna happen.....
She's either gonna accept it or get ****ed off and worst case leave.
Either way it's a win win!

Sounds like you have a great marriage!
Hubby can buy what ever he wants as long as the bills are paid and there is food in the fridge.
He is great about my girls weekends away why would I not support his hobby?
