I voted other for snakeheads. They may not be roaming the waters of Alberta but I know that people have them in tanks and they are way more aggressive then anything else I can think of.

Bull trout...
I have never seen other fish puke out lunch just to go after a lure.
I have also caught a lot of bulls with whitefish tails sticking out of their mouths.

I fish a river in saskatchewan that has browns, rainbows, and pike. The big browns and rainbows chase the pike out of their territory...

Pike without a doubt. When is the last time you saw a trout or any other fish for that matter take a bait over half the size of the fish... It is absolutely amazing what you can catch pike on.

Trout probably have the most fight though, even the little buggers go nuts and are a blast to reel in. Pike for being so aggressive don't really put up that great of a fight and often are similar to reeling in a log.

Ever try giant lures for trout?

That said, I once found 2 pike skeletons on the shore of Georgian bay.

They were both ~5lbs and one was stuck inside the other.

FATALITY

Yes and never caught a damn thing. Biggest lure I have ever caught a trout on was a small spinner and I have had days those wouldn't work either. If there is pike in a lake I can usually catch one with either a spoon, jig or rapala. They go after anything and everything and it doesn't even really matter how big the lure is.

When is the last time you caught a sub 6" trout on a 7 cm rapapla? Below is 1 of 3 pike I was able to manage this summer... Just try to tell me that isn't an aggressive fish.

Bull trout hammer streamers longer than themselves quite often.
Bulls will also swarm and attack another bull that has been hooked.
I have had 24" bull on the line and couple 30 + " bulls taking runs at it. I haven't seen that with too many other species.

On three different occasions i have seen pike beach themselves chasing small fish right out of the water.

Dont know too many fish that would hit anything even aluminum foil rapped around a hook.

I'm not sure how you fellas think that pike vigorously pursue their prey? My understanding is that they are predominately ambush type hunters laying in wait and typically grabbing their prey sideways and then turning them head first to eat them. That's why when you are icefishing for the big boys you let them have line until it stops, wait for them to stop and eat the bait and then hook them.

IMO pike won't chase and hit a lure unless it's presented relatively close to him. I recall hearing something about expending energy vs the energy that they would obtain from the meal. They won't expend 10x energy pursuing a 5x meal.

this is true, however, the lures we use to attract pike are made to resemble "wounded" baitfish......... i think that may draw a pike from quite aways as opposed to a" healthy "baitfish.

Never caught a bull so can't comment on them. All I know is that Rainbows are finicky and not even close to what I would consider an aggressive fish.

Slightly true but I don't know of any fish that will go screaming across a lake to try and grab some food, usually you have to get it fairly close to get their attention. If you wanted to treat that as aggression then bass would have to be right up near the top because if annoyed(buzz bombs) they will run in for the kill. That is why so many people like to fish for them.

We're not going to do the bass in Alberta thing are we?

The question was: "What is the most aggressive fish in Alberta?"
