There are tons of different launching sights. I like started at laurier park and going to gold bar park.. or terwillegar park and going to laurier. Or starting at gold bar park and going near legendary golf course. Personally I like the city floats more to look at and there are some pretty good fishing spots spread throughout. Bring a fish finder if you got one to look for good holes.

Have you ever tried that from Abraham Lake, that would be so much fun to cruise from Abraham Lake down the N.S.R into Edmonton fishing well at it, what a blast that would be.

There's some sketchy rapids on the NSR between abraham and edmonton, definately would not be a good paddle for a beginner.
You can always put in at the boatlaunch in devon and take out at the lions campground, or edmonton, or anywhere inbetween that you can find. My favorite is Devon to Terwilleger, takes a solid 6 hours though.

Actually not terwilleger, sorry. Close to terwilleger.
You can drive down under the henday bridge. Thats where I take out. Just gotta get your boat up the little hill and your in business.

There is but during the summer it has always been unlocked when i've gone down there. I've gone down on both sides of the river.

Ive been down there and it's sometimes locked and sometimes open.
I'm worried I'll be down there and it'll get locked!

I'm hoping to buy a nice canoe this spring and do trips from Edmonton to fort Saskatchewan, and Fort Saskatchewan to Vinca.....like I used to as a kid

That does sound like a good afternoon.
I've got a small inflatable boat, I wonder if it would be safe to use that?
Canoe would be much better though.

Ya. Pick a good day though. I've got caught in a few thunderstorms while on the river on my pontoon boat and had to wait it out at shore. Makes for a good story after though

Shaun: There are so many cool places on the NSR past Abraham Lake that would be good for fishing in a pontoon boat.
Devil's Elbow near Rock Mtn. House will bring back memories like steelhead fishing on the Gold.
Bryley's rapids where the Clearwater river is another really cool place.
And between Horberg and the Clearwater there are also nice little places with gentle pools in them.
Spring is the best time to float the NSR up there.

Take your fishing rod with you too.
And make sure it is a bit more than 4 pound test.

The abraham lake sounds like a fun trip. Could you do that in one day? If you guys are interested we could set up a few trips this summer. I spend most of my time on the bow river and want to explore some local waters and do some fly fishing for pike.

Abraham lake to edmonton would take multiple days. It takes 5-8 hours to go from devon to edmonton and that is a fairly short strech of river.
