Default For all you antelope freaks :)

Wyoming State record.

Photos of this heavy horned pronghorn have been circulating under a heading "Monster WYO Antelope."

As it turns out, this buck is now tied for the Wyoming state record with an official B&C score of 91-2/8. It was taken by Michael Wheeler on 10/3/08 from Natrona County. The other record pronghorn was taken by Bill Boatman from Fremont County in 1988.

The largest base circumference (9-2/8) on record is from another Wyoming buck taken in 1966. Wheeler's buck has base measurements of 7-5/8, with 2nd quarters of 9-1/8 and 8-5/8. Horn length is 14-2/8 and 14-5/8.

Very cool buck. When you see a 14 5/8" long buck go over 90" total, it sure makes you realize the importance of mass in scoring Antelope. Thanks for posting that.

Thats a good size but im in suffield right now and i can honestly say i have seen at least 3 bucks that are as big if not bigger. horns 3-4 times the length of their ears and plenty of mass at the base. i dont have the regs with me but if someone wants to gaze through them for me, Is their hunting allowed in suffield on the base????

Yes.. I get to hunt goats.. Just not here in Alberta.
We are off on another adventure, this time to Wyoming.
Dad will also be hunting Antelope and my Son William gets to try for Turkey (8 Years old).
Its going to be a great time, just not sure if we should Drive or Fly.
At this point I am leaning towards driving, but lets see how it all plays out.

I am really looking forward to the 3 generations getting to hunt together.

Nope, you guys dun gone blew it up too good. Hey if you see a hairy blond guy working POL nicknamed dewey say hi for me. (Well he was workin' POL last week)

Should also mention, guys look at the 91'ers horn length 14 and change. It's really the cutters and the bases that make 'lope!

Cool,

Me and my fam are hunting Wyoming for goats this year as well and we are super excited.Wyoming had a good winter and they are seeing some of the best moisture they have had in years.Should be some good trophy bucks running around.I would definatly drive if I was you.The drive through,Alberta,Montana and into Wyoming is spectacular.

I will draw a archery tag for Alberta next year the Rifle the following year so I cant wait.

If these 3 bucks that you have seen are as big as the one posted above then they would all be new Alberta records.Actually they would crush the exsisting record by nearly 3 to 4 inchs as the current record sits at 88 4/8.

Nope, no hunting on the base, hence the size of some of the antelope as well as the mule deer.

Thats an awesome pronghorn. One in a million buck,,, literally. You would have to look at alot of antelope to find one that looks like that. That said, youd also have to pass on alot of great bucks to get to him, unless it was a lucky find. Id be dancing a jig merely having seen something like that.

I just checked on my draw priorities and I am 8 for Archery,
6 for Trophy and 3 for non-trophy.

I reckon I may put in for Archery this year. and 999 the others. Then when I get back from down under I will go for trophy and the next year non-trophy.

I like hunting Pronghorn and the more time I can spend on the prairie the better I like it.

(I'd go to B.C., Yukon or Alaska for goats, not Wyoming)

What is even more crazy about this buck is it was shot in a unit that has 1500 tags,is not very large in size and that the buck was shot the last week or so of the season.Do you think anyone would pass on this buck because he looked short??? Makes a guy wonder how he could hide for a Month all through rutting season.lol

BB.
What are you resonably looking for (Size wise)

Myself.. 16 inches. With perhaps holding out the first day for something stretching towards 17.

That one is so thick, it makes him look short. Crazy. Tough to judge alright.

Here is one I posted before but will throw up again. Major league buck too. Poor quality picture.

Length will all depend on how much Moisture the units get during the spring and summer growing seasons but I do like tall bucks.Me and my brother will be holding out for 80 inch plus bucks but this hunt is more about getting my mom a good one.Something in the high 70s for her. Also i really like wierd ones so if I see one he might be in trouble.lol I think bucks in the 80 gross range will be obtainable with some hard work and lots of glassing. We will have a week or more to hunt and should literally be able to look over thousands of Antelopes. We are also going the last week of the season so Local pressure will almost be 0 as there Elk and Deer seasons will be open.

Wyoming is a beautiful place to hunt so I can wait.

Wow that is a giant for sure.Hard to tell without a side profile but looks like he has got good mass and great length (16-17 inch?? ) and I can see some prongs.. Probably a BC buck I would think?

On scoring these things you only get 2 boxes to enter length but you get 10 places to enter girth. Because the score depends so heavily on girth measurements, rather than the length, you have a real hard time estimating score before you pull the trigger. A half an inch in extra girth measures out to 5" on the score whereas an extra 1" in length only gives you 2" on the score sheet.

Because of that, I have no idea what the one in the picture would score, he's long but didn't stick around long enough for me to get multiple profile shots. Maybe I'll shoot him this year and get back to you on it...
