So heres a group pic. These were my first ever burbot and I managed to land 8. The biggest burbot I caught was around 6 pounds which is probally pretty average and the rest were 5 and up. The pike was 6.1 pounds and 30 inches

Nice 6 pounder ! How do you like them are they better than pike !
I have not tried them yet ! Are they in shallow already ! How deep were you fishing ?
What kind of bait did you use ?

thanx for the comments. I was fishing on the edge of a drop off in 12 ft of water but a few yards closer to shore dropped off to 25. The guys fishing over the drop off caught a nice chunk of a pike that was probally around 13 pounds. I was origionally fishing with maggots for whitefish. I felt a little tension so i lifted (thinking it was a whitie) and ended up having a burb lol. After that some guys beside us showed us some tackel they were jigging off bottom with and we all started hammering them on those. I wasnt using bait, just a vertical spoon. We had one line out with a smelt for pike and got one burb on that too.

An easy way to get boneless burbot fillets is to impale the fish back up on a 2x4 with a 6" spike through it's head. This holds it still.Make a shallow cut around the back of neck area, run the fillet knife down spine [just under skin]full length on both sides of tail fin .[also cut along bottom tail fin]Grab skin with vicegrips and pull down[skin comes off like a sock]Leaving ribs and belly remove fillet[just meat]back to tail.No bones..................Harold

Good job, burbot are really easy to catch and they provide steady action all day when you find them!
