Dash cameras
anyone that does not have 1, why?
In this litigious society, with insurance companies passing the buck and burden of proof onto us at all times, why would anyone not have it? Cheap, simple peace of mind.
All my trucks have 1, and they are on sale at Bestbuy right now.
Gps, front and rear camera, parking monitor, impact recording are a must.

Agree Ken. What a cheap investment to remove doubt when it is a he said she said collision. I need to get off my butt and get one too.

I have wanted one for a few years as I feel they are better insurance than insurance itself.
I was previously parking on the street and was concerned about leaving anything in my truck or on dash / windshield that might entice anyone to help themselves. (I am not great with removing things from windshield and taking them with me. Actually the issue is more remembering to bring it back to the vehicle.)
But now that i park in a garage every night, and I have been watching sales and reading trying to figure out what brands are good / what makes a good cam
Recommendations?
I have had my eye on this guy:

Isn't it funny how people will complain about big brother watching them,
And yet install and carry cameras just about everywhere, to keeps tabs on what others are doing.
Don't worry about losing your freedom folks.
With the advent of cameras everywhere and every fool with one, we don't have freedom anymore.
And we never will again.

MY camera is so I have proof IF required for Insurance for ME.
YOU do something stupid and I catch you on camera, money well spent.
It has nothing to do with 'big brother'. It is protecting ourselves from others' stupidity

I have a DOD LS460W and it's pretty great. 1080p HD 60fps and very good night time videos. GPS, speed recording, impact sensor, and emergency save button.
I turned the impact sensor off because a bump in the road sets it off, then my saved videos fill up. I also turned the speed recording off because I have a bad habit of going 15 over.

Point missed.
We've degraded to a society where all actions is viewed and recorded , not only by big brother but by virtually anyone.
Everyone 's actions are worse than our own,
And I have video evidence to prove it
Even though that can be changed or edited at the users own hand to possibly misrepresent the facts.
And because everyone is a armchair, internet expert, can be interpreted any way
And usually wrong
Point is with all these cameras, everywhere, there is no freedom,
Justify it all you want, and call it self preservation,
but while you're watching, you're being watched.
Now how is that Freedom.

Even the cheapest ones are better than nothing. I run them in all the vehicles. It's amazing what stupid people drive like. A couple hundred dollars can save you thousands of not hundreds of thousands.

You already don't have freedom, unless you are a criminal in which case you have it better off. If you honestly think that you have freedom, you obviously don't want to have the things or be able to do the things I want to do. I for one know the government that controls our lives is not looking out for me.

I am not getting what you are talking about. It seems to me that a dash camera is simply recording what happens on a public road. A person driving on that road would know that his actions were open to be viewed by the public. What freedom is lost by the recording of those actions? The only freedom that I can see being lost is the freedom to argue that a person did not do something that he in fact did.

Have one & for the cost wouldn't be without one. Does front & rear with motion detection in HD. Cost about $80.00 off FleaBay. Ask anyone that's had to fight with an insurance company what that's worth to avoid

I have a blackvue 650 a thinkware 750 and a thinkware x500. They all have dual cameras for front and rear plus live gps, parking lot incident recording, the works.
I think the blackvue is better but it's very expensive.
The thinkware 500 is on sale at bestbuy right now for 250 and comes with a wired rear camera. Hard to beat.

Said tongue in cheek of course. Still a good thing to have when it comes down to two peoples word and no witnesses to agree with one or the other. Seems like the Police and Insurance people accept the vids as proof.

I have one and love it. Not sure what it cost because I got it as a gift but I don't think it was very expensive.
The brand is 4Sight.

Which is fine,
One should be able to document what occurred with photographic evidence.
But it's not always used that way.
With dash cameras we see what happens in everyday driving, and it's the latest fad to put these videos on YouTube or other such sites.
Accidents happen daily,
But usually not to one person daily.
Also just because you have a camera on the front or back of your vehicle doesn't make you the better driver,
As much as anyone believes, we are all not perfect,
We all make mistakes,
Some hilarious, some with un intended circumstances,
Geez another thread talked about tracking a person by their phones when outside of work,
The big fight is drones with cameras
But we've become so enthralled in having to have them.
We're quick to pull them out to record something,
And then what,
Maybe it goes viral.
Every mistake can be recorded and put out there for the entire world to see,
To err is human,
But to have ones mistake in video or picture spread through the web
Usually without ones consent,
How is that Freedom?
Things posted to any sharing site can be used against you,
For things like jobs,
How is that a good thing?
Forgiveness is devine,
But your mistake lives on.

Just a question Ken or who ever wishes to respond what would you think about the company you work for having cameras at your desk or work station?

This is true. We all make mistakes, often quite innocently. When a mistake is recorded and published to an unlimited audience, the results could be ruinous.

i forsee some tape being applied to the camera lens, or just pointing it away

Not everyone feels the need to have a camera. I have one for my own in case of an accident, otherwise video gets overwritten after a time.
I don't agree with people uploading everything to youtube, and calling drivers out but that's the way some people are.
However, there are times when it's epic.

I haven't been in an accident in 15 years. I have however done minor damage to my car practising defensive driving - trying to avoid accidents.
Why do you have life or house insurance? Just because or just in case?

I have insurance so I don't have to carry a camera everywhere. I don't have life insurance because there is no such thing, it's death insurance. I would say your defensive driving technique isn't working if you have had an accident while
practicing defensive driving.
