Default AR advice

I am thinking of getting my first tactical style rifle but no zero bout them and hoping for advice.

I have a restricted licence but why are some rifles NR and others restricted? What makes them restricted.

I would prefer NR so that I can shoot on crown property.

I have been looking at AR15 Colt and Norinco. Would anyone have a recommendation on type, make and model.

Thank you.

There does not appear to be any common sense where the firearms classifications are concerned. Any AR-15 or AR-15 clone is restricted, while other firearms that operate very similarly and shoot the same cartridge, but look slightly different, may be non restricted.

I think there are still a few s&w mp15's http://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms...i-co-compliant kicking around in the $700ish price range at various canadian retailers.

Made in Cananda, non-restricted, most owners report MOA or better, looks almost identical to an AR-15 but weighs a bit more, & costs $2750...

Try and grab a BCL 102. It’s an AR102 so it’s a .308 but it’s NR and $1750

Default Ar15

I to just got the bug to get into an AR platform. I just picked this one up last night https://www.cabelas.ca/product/10220...tactical-rifle It has great reviews and is very economical. I wanted a bare bones AR to build up myself. There is a few nice ones in the For sale section as well that are already built .

All AR Platform rifles are restricted, there are a variety of non-restricted black style rifles available in Canada that are non-restricted but they do not have universally exchangeable AR components, these include:

Robinson Arms XCR
Bushmaster ACR
Tavor
ATRS Modern Hunter

I have an AR for sale in buy and sell. Smith and Wesson first gen. Paid $1680 new at wholesale sports.

Anybody know why the second gen that is available at Cabelas is half the price? Mine does have a heavy barrel. And comes with 2 different stocks from the factory, but I just can't figure it out.

I almost bought a "Refurbished" M&P 15 at Wholesale the day they announced the Closing Sale.

$500 (maybe $550) was the price on the tag. When I passed it up, the guy standing behind me immediately proclaimed "I'LL TAKE IT !"...

i just bought a mini14 target.

with 55gr remington umc the results were a 2-3" group. with 55gr sbk's (loaded for another rifle) i got this. so far i'm pretty happy because i had no expectations other than to have a gong smasher.

i've already got 200+ rounds down the tube and i got it less than a week ago

this weekend i get to see how it likes 60gr bergers and 75gr bergers

Macabee defense and ATRS out of Calgary and BCL out of Ontario are making NR rifles similar to AR15s as well.

Thx guys.

Ordered a M&P 15 for $600 from the local gun shop (couldn't resist price. Owner said he ordered a dozen and they sold in 3 days, but 5 more coming next week.

Whilst I was there I looked at a JR carbine 45acp (NR) which I think ill pick up tomorrow.

I like the idea of the Maccabee Defense, but I'm looking even more forward to the NR matched upper/lower ATRS is working on.

My only gripe with the ATRS is you can’t mess with it without voiding the warranty.

The Maccabee is way overpriced IMO. $1000 for a receiver????

ATRS is making a receiver only and it's gonna be priced similar.

Or course they're only making it because completion is heating up and they're no longer the one NR black rifle AR lookalike manufacturer.

That is for both upper and lower stripped receivers, I believe anyway. Not to bad if someone was to buy a budget AR, strip it and put the parts into the Macb. NR black gun for under 2k. Or for people like me that already have many parts laying around, 1k and I have a new gopher/coyote rifle.

I got a mini 14 and I haven't had any issues with it. The 556 ammo seems to be priced a bit cheaper. I bought a used tactical stock off of kijiji for 40 bucks. Next purchase will be an AR style scope. I like the fact that this rifle looks tactical but isn't restricted.

The only major I have seen so far is that the gas rings are wearing because of poor machining. I hope that since BCL took over NEA after the first batch, and bought new CNC machines, that the machining issues are gone for this batch.

My rifle will be here Friday. I can’t wait.
