Thumbs up beauvalkid

A cartridge that is accurate, flat shooting with minimal recoil and surprised that it is not mentioned more often.

I use a Hagn falling block single shot and find that as others have noted that RL22 is a good powder. I have also found that VVN160, CCI BR primer in Lapua brass loaded with 140 grain Nosler Partition bullets to be an accurate combination. It burns clean and chronos at a bit over 2700 with SD at 20 and ES at 50.

I contacted Clay at Prophet River who brought in some 140 grain North Fork bullets and will be checking these out.

Red face 6.5 sweet-de

Have used this for the past 8-yrs and am impressed with its performance, and is chambered in a number of Factory/Custom rifles. My first one was a Rem. Classic. This one is a keeper, one for my son to get when he needs another one. !! Mid-sized cal. with big performance, over 100 yrs old >>if it aint broke why fix it.!!

^x2, love the swede. Started off with an M96, numbers matching 1900 Mauser built, traded up to a CZ550 Lux, it shoots anything under an inch, and will shoot 140gr hand loads routinely under 1/2moa. It's one of the keepers that I hope my grandson will hunt with in the future. Dogger

Just returning from Camp Wainwright , where my friend used his Tikka in 6.5x55 to kill his first moose. One properly placed 130gr Accubond, and the bull went 50 feet and collapsed.

Elk, if you don't mind me asking, at what range was the shot?
I am relatively new to the 6.5x55 fan club, and want to set some realistic expectations for this cartridge. I'm confident it will take deer out further than I'm comfortable shooting, but for Elk and Moose the cartridge might be the limiting factor...

Thanks.

Personally i would use the 6.5x55 with a 130 accubond out to about 400yards on moose if you want to stay around that 1200 ft/lbs of energy. On deer probably about 550-600 would be max for a 1000 ft /lbs.

Only about 125 yards, bullet did massive damage to lungs.

Just hung the quarters, and a better examination revealed that the bullet entered behind the shoulder at a quartering away angle, just missed the heart, blew a hole in the lungs, passed through the offside ribs, and lodged in the offside shoulder. I will look for the bullet we butcher the animal.

The 6.5x55 with 130 accubonds is an impressive little cartridge. I shot a deer last year with mine, can't remember if it was 525 or 475 yards but it was just like you flipped a switch.

Two Tikka's
1. Stock rifle with B&C stock topped with Leupold Mark4 3.5-10x40
2. Custom with McLennan barrel and McMillan stock topped with Vortex Viper HS-T 4-16x50 FFP.
Both are hunting rifles and love Hornady SST 129 gr with IMR4350.
Three moose, five sheep and lots of deer and dogs up to 650 yards.

I took a 1000 lb bull elk at 400 yards. Bullet was a 130 grain accubond with a MV of 2850 out of a stock tikka. Broad side lung shot and the bull walked about 10 -15 yards and dropped. I would definitely use the same load on a moose. I recovered the accubond and it mushroomed perfect. This is not a calibre that you can drop an animal with a bad shot. If you do your part with a swede and use a good bullet you can drop elk or moose with ease.

2 - gustovs
3 - sako’s
2 - Tikkas
5 - Rugers (Lipseyes editions)
2 - FWT’s
1 - steyr
1 - Remington

Dad, Brother, niece, wife all carry and shoot.
Only one I see not like a certain bullet was the Remington. Pretty sure it has a slow twist.
We’ve been shooting Swedes since my dads dad made us haha.
We’ve harvested giant moose to 500 yards with well placed shots.

I like my weatherbys but own a few 6.5’s and let everyone “borrow” them of course.

Default 6.5x55

I have in 6.5x55.......
Tikka 695
Parker Hale deluxe
Husqvarna m96
Carl Gustav m96

I find sierra 140 with H4831 work well...all have different seating depths a thousandth off the lands or what the mag will allow.

The Tikka shoots clovers @100

Grew up shooting dads old bubba’d m96 Carl Gustav that he got from a friends wife after he passed away. I shot 140gr interlocks behind h4831. Now in my mid 20’s I own a 260 Remington in a tikka. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Except I’m still wanting a high end 6.5 x 55

Love shooting my Carl Gustaf M96, haven't reloaded for it yet but taking notes for when I do. I bought mine from a collection but sometime after 1917 it's stock was upgraded to a nice wood stock. It's numbers matching as well and is in great shape.

Default CZ 550 Lux

I just acquired one of these from a fellow Albertan. I’ll be picking it up in the New Year. This will be the 3rd 6.5 Swede that’s past thru my hands. The first was my very first hunting rifle I bought when I turned 16, Carl Gustav 38.
This time around it’ll stay and replace a few in the gun locker.
She’ll be wearing a Leupold 3-9x40 or fixed 6x. Don’t know yet.
And I’ll fed her a healthy diet of 140gr Hornadys and IMR 4831.
Pic of actual rifle;

1913 Carl Gustov with a 18 1/2" barrel. Using Century Arms 139gr SP bullets gives me a nickle sized group at 100 yrds.

This is my 6.5x55. I’ve really enjoyed handholding for it and it has been a pleasure to shoot. I’ve tried a few different bullets, noslers, bergers, sierras. My current load consists of 139gr Lapua scenars being pushed by 46gr of IMR7828 at a speed average around 2725fps. I don’t really have any pictures of groups as I don’t think people would believe me anyways. It’s not for everyone but I love it. Hoping to get some new optics in the new year.

Here is mine taken out to 900 yards shooting the 142 smk's. Looking to reach 1200 yards next year. It now sits in a micmillan stock. When hunting season rolls around, it shoots the 160gr woodleighs. I have found that H4831sc to be the best powder for it.

I picked this Heym SR20N in 6.5x55 a few months ago and I ended up selling it. It was in mint condition and the stock was too long for me. I didn’t want to bubba it either so I let it go. It was a work of art.

This is my Viking arms super lyx in 6.5x55. Its not an original husqvarna or Carl Gustafs 1900 action (best action ever made IMHO), but it shoots half moa with the 142 ABLR. Wish I could find a Carl Gustafs grade III in 6.5x55

I had this lakelander 375 in 6.5x55 and I stupidly sold it. It was a very robust rifle and it was really unique.

I had a voere titan II as well but i sold it as it wasn’t nice enough to keep. Searched everywhere for a better stock. I didn’t take any pics of my T3 in 6.5x55 but it looks like most other tikkas. Am also on the hunt for a Tikka M65 deluxe in 6.5x55. Might import one from Sweden. Nice rifle robinpeck!

Not familiar with this cartridge other than its been around for sometime but what's all the fuss about this calibre?
It offers near .308 performance with significantly less recoil. Every time I shot my m96 sporter I would wonder why I bothered with anything else. Due to better stock ergonomics the felt recoil seemed way less than even a 30-30, and everything I ever killed with it dropped within 30 yards of where it was shot. One of the finest deer cartridges ever invented and plenty capable on bigger species.
