Default 25-06 effective range

If the shooter is capable, how far is the effective range of a 25-06 on deer with a 100gr ttsx or 110 accubond? I'm considering buying one. Thanks

I have a .25-06 and used the 110gr accubond.

Range probably 600 yards. Go to the minimum impact velocity, maybe add a little buffer. Starting at say 3200 FPS down to 1800 FPS.

Need more try the lr accubond if there is one. I think it’s 1300 FPS impact.

With the accubonds you should maintain the minimum 1800 FPS they recommend for expansion to about 600-650. If you go by the 1000 foot pounds of energy that is the commonly accepted minimum you’ll top out closer to 500 yards. Not everyone agrees with that number though so ymmv.

Table from StrelokPro app using my 25.06 shooting 110 gr Accubond. Pretty much agrees with what you are saying ^^^^^^

Default Long shots

I had a beauty Sako in 25-06 and my longest shot was on a pronghorn at 389 yards, 120 gr Hornady with 58gr of reloder 25, lucky for me the wind was very light that fine day.....
25-06 like all other calibers, is only as good as the man squeezing the trigger.....

Range is one thing, killing range is another. i would say 300 on Elk for a clean kill and 400 perhaps 450 for deer. These are ethical ranges. The long range guys can scream all they want and keep wounding on a shot that hits heavy bone.

Information is one thing but the skill set of the shooter and is another....do all game the favour and get as close as possible well within your skill set and be patient for the best shot presented for a clean kill...if it’s not there don’t take it....if you can’t close the gap to well within what you can do....don’t take it.

Remember we always see the hero shots and the hero writings in books etc....the game we pursue deserves better then being wounded and disappearing....

Pay attention to the twist rate. You may have your heart set on 110's, but as heavier bullets are becoming more mainstream, you may want to give them a try. Get the fastest twist you can find. 1:10 used to be the norm. 1:9 is more common today. But if you can get a 1:8.5 or even a 1:8 it would be better.

Also the 25-06 will love an extra couple of inches of barrel length.

I love a good quarter-bore and the 25-06 is kind of the Goldilocks cartridge in the bunch.

I shot multiple deer at 5-550 yds with my 25-06AI with 115 Berger’s at 3350 FPS. I agree on twist if you are building a gun. Go with a 7 or 7.5 twist. This will allow you to shoot the new Berger, 131 BJ, 110 SBD2, and Hammers. My AI was shot out so I went with a 25-284 with a 1-7.25” twist. Shoots the 131 BJ great.
