You should have bought the magazine. ;-)

In short, hunting causes them to spread farther out, teaches them to avoid humans, and often drives them to be more nocturnal.

The only method so far that has shown to actually be effective at controlling wild boar populations is whole sounder removal. For this, they usually use a judas pig, collar it, and release it, which reveals the location of the sounder. A combination of ground and air support is typically used to then capture and euthanize the animals.

As fun as they are to hunt, it's not worth risking our native wildlife, not to mention the damage to some of our most delicate ecosystems.

My 2 cents.

I used to subscribe to a bunch of magazines (not all of them pornographic either).
I prefer an actual paper magazine to online, especially for extended bathroom breaks!
The only one I actually miss though is the Backwoodsman.

Default How Good is your Memory

Hi I could use some help with this project

there was an Alberta Bow hunter Magazine Published for a few Years maybe even for 3 or 4 Years back in the 1980's [I actually Forgot the full Name but i think it was 'Alberta Bow hunter'.. I had all the copies at one time but lost them in a House fire a few years back.

I was always my plan to get my Daughter who is an Artist to redo one of the Front Cover's -The Front cover was not a Photo but an Artist rendition of a Bow hunter in a Tree Stand Shooting an arrow at a approaching Buck .. very well done and some great Colors ..

If anyone has the Issue I would really appreciate a scanned Color Copy ,,
I would even buy the copy if interested in selling ,,or any copies of that Magazine someone may have for sale ...
Again any suggestions you can offer will be appreciated -

Thank you in advance

They were eliminated up here after a few dozen escaped and started to populate the countryside. Maybe because our winters make it harder for them to escape.

But I can't help but wonder, if what you say is true, and I have no reason to doubt you. How does not hunting them help. Wouldn't they continue to increase and spread anyway? All be it, a bit slower.

BTW, I am thrilled that you are writing for AO. I know something of your passion for wild things and your dedication to your pursuits. I have no doubt your contributions will be a benefit to AO and hunters.

PS I'm still trying to make that trip to photograph a Rattlesnake but life has a way of diverting one's energies.

Hey Keg!

If they are doing well in an area without hunting pressure, they have little impetus to spread as fast as if they were being hunted by us.

Imagine you live in a little village with food and water nearby. You'd stay within the general area.

Now imagine that... I don't know... dragons come and raid your village during the day, never at night, killing a village member every time they visit. Would you stay? Or would you flee in a panic, becoming active at night instead of the day?

That's what the studies have shown to have happened, anyway. Much as I wish hunting was the answer, it has been tried elsewhere and the data supports the dispersal/nocturnal result. (Unfortunately.)

What we need is concerted and sustained pressure on the government - especially the Saskatchewan government - to invest in whole sounder removal. A co-ordinated effort between all three prairie provinces would be ideal.

I never bothered because most of them are all American. That, plus the internet.

The only magazine I read is the hunting regulations lol

Only hinting magazine I get is Peterson’s and Field n Stream. Started with Peterson’s when I was in Iraq. Also get guns n ammo but those 3 are it. I wouldn’t mind a bush craft or survival magazine either. I always can find use for survival skills!!

No subscriptions but occasionally I'll buy AO off the shelf if I'm flying somewhere and want something to flip through on the plane other than the puke bag pamphlet.

My Grandfather had piles of old Field & Steam and Outdoor Life mags from the 70's and 80's. I loved the old covers most of which were artwork depicting hunting and fishing and not simple still imagery. Sadly my old man threw them all out not realizing what was in the box after I moved out 25 years ago. Too bad, they're collectors items now.
