Default Help with a Model 97 Takedown

I want to remove the plug so I can put a few more rounds in it I removed the two screws and pushed the slide pin as far as it will go one way but I can't completely remove it. How much force should I use to get it out?

I purchased a model 97 to build a CAS gun. I would like to shorten the barrel to 18.5", but I just can't make the decision to actually cut the barrel down. You don't have to shorten the barrel for CAS but it helps and I also want a HD/camp gun.

Be a shame to wreck a nice antique.
