Default Knife traditions

So as of late I have noticed one old wife's tale about knives. Any awesome knife I buy always cuts me good.
Another one I hear on occasion is that when receiving a knife as a gift you must "pay" the giver as it is bad luck

With all this being said I recently revived a knife from someone whom found it in an area that homeless are knowen to camp out in a Alberta small town. The knife looked like it road a hard winter. I cleaned it up and will be giving the traditional "0.01" to the person or 0.05 in our case. It's not sharp so it hasn't bled me yet. Any other tradition as this as per the writing was a gift to someone in 1985.

May be I'm over thinking this may be I'm not. Not sure.
Would like to hear Yalls input.

Definitely overthinking!

That said, it is a good idea and pleasant thing - to observe tradition.

Whatever you figure

As I understand it, superstition states that you should give someone a coin when they give you a knife. I've heard two reasons for this. The first says that it is to ensure that the knife doesn't cut the owner; the second reason, which I've heard more often, is that it is to ensure that the knife does not cut the friendship between the giver and the recipient.

I was told by some Cree folks that its customary to return copper when you recieve a knife as a gift. I've always givem someobe back a penny, same as they did.

Only tradition I know.
