I did. I only had 2 in the sale. But I don't feel that's relevant to the discussion.

Actually it is relevant if you look at my post earlier. What I basically said was that the ones that sold were for good money but the clearances were not great by any stretch of the imagination. Look at the first few pages of the marten sale, there is a ton of top notch furs that were bought back. I'm glad you sold yours for good money, I sold some of my for good money as well. However, I didn't even sell half of my labeled skins. I've seen where the lower grades have not had much interest but never the better furs? I think Marty is probably correct on his take with the scheduling of the sales this year?

Do you guys think that a lot of those marten will sell private treaty and if so, will it be at a lower price than at auction?

My post was made in sarcasm at my own expense.....Mostly directed to the fact that I only caught 2 marten this past season.
Both mine were labeled just for interest sake.

I'm not sure Dave, if they do sell Private treaty I sure hope they wouldn't sell for less than the auction. I listened to bits of the auction and it seemed they had a pretty good idea of what they wanted the lots to sell for.
I've never held furs out of a auction before but I may ask that my remaining marten not be offered in the July sale. Not sure if they would even do that?

My bad, sometimes it's hard to pick out the sarcasm in text. There is always next season, here's to hoping your season is safe and successful next year!

A couple of years ago I put in my Fall muskrats and they ended up in the second auction of the season instead of the first. I asked about getting them on the first and it was a no-go. I never pushed the issue because I realized that they'd have to sort through thousands of pelts just to pick mine out and then have a bunch of computer work to sort things out. Worth a try I guess, but I wouldn't count on them doing it.

Yeah that makes sense Dave. Too bad though, a July sale doesn't sound like a great idea for marten... Dam shame though. Always next year I guess....
Hopefully better sale dates next season.

Anyone have any muskrats that have sold private treaty after the auction? There didn't seem to be be much interest at the auction.

Had 9 marten in the auction. 6 sold.
Best was a select XL $145 Canadian
Two select mediums. Only $58
One damaged XXL? Can't remember any damage. Maybe over stretching? Sad that an XXL didn't sell...
One fisher offered and sold. Grade l-ll Large $49.03
Also best ermine was over $4
Wild mink $26 was nice to see. Was worried it was gonna be lower

Scratch that! Now I remember the damaged fur. Flying squirrel picked it over for nesting material I believe. Spots of thinned out fur. Hopefully it moves at some point. Not just wasted.

Fha, nafa
I shipped to both auctions this season. I sold 111 of 113 beavers at FHA, 100% clearance of Rats at FHA as well. Shipped 150ish rats to NAFA, sold 20, glad I didn't send them any beavers. I sold 100% of Squirrels, Ermine, Marten, Fox, Cross Fox, Coyote, Mink, Skunk, and 75% of Fisher at NAFA.
I had Top Lot Ermine x15 and Fisher (male), Second Lot Coyote, Mink x2, and Fisher (female) x2. Also had 2nd Lot beaver at FHA in Jan x4, no XDK's this year.

Sounds like their drumming charges are lower than NAFAs, however, that is more than brutally offset by FHAs exchange rate, 5% to NAFAs 1%. Jim Gibb, a former FHA employee pointed that out to the Canadian trappers recently.
So you get your coyote drummed at FHA for $0.85 or something, but they get you for an extra $4 on every $100 coyote, $100 lynx, $100 marten, etc. when they exchange your money from USD to CDN.
Sounds like pain!
But on a positive note, sounds like they sold the rats that everybody was waiting til the last possible moment for the market to establish. Way to go FHA!
Mind you, i guess for every 100 rats you sell, FHA is gonna snitch the equivalent of 4 rats from you for free on the exchange rate. Those sneaky, sneaky little charges!!!

Good to hear Spruce , I always did better at FHA with beaver and rats , coyotes however were a different story . Mind telling us what the good coyote was worth ?

Congrats on a good coyote , NAFA always seems to be the smart sell for them .I had misunderstood and thought it went to FHA . Strange how the price took a substantial drop after the top lot but luckily leveled out for next 10 drafts or so .
