Default Planes Buzzing Waterfowl

There has been lots of people mentioning planes buzzing roosts and waterfowl lately in Central Alberta. Areas that normally hold birds are eerily quiet. If you see this please video it and report it. Harassing wildlife is neither ethical or legal.

Really? Manned planes? Kind of dangerous...no aviator I know would try this.

Seems like something you would do after a round of barnstorming or dragging a wingtip for funsies.

You don’t have to get that low to spook them just a couple passes usually does it. I have only had it happen to me while I was hunting once a few years ago. There has been quite a few people mentioning it this year.

Could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that private planes are contracted by the wildlife damage to agriculture branch of SRD to harass large concentrations of waterfowl that are congregating close to areas that farmers have crops in the ground and/or swaths. I have seen small aircraft flying low and “dive bombing” some of the bigger wetlands and sloughs here in the Grande Prairie area. The effect it had was that the birds scattered, only to return to the exact same spot no sooner than the airplane was gone...

Important part is to get the registration number.
