Default It's Started.

A fellow AO member has been teasing me today with pics of him ice fishing at a lake within 1 hour of Edm.

Ponds freeze faster than big lakes, but what matters is the ice thickness. Is it thick enough to support people walking on it (~4 inch of solid ice)?

Personally, I think he's nuts, but hey, it's working. I know he is about 30 feet from shore, and ha is a big (260 lbs?) guy, so i imagine ice is at least 3 inches.
I would not go out for a couple weeks yet.

Sunday I caught a 20.5" rainbow, today a 16". During both of the days the little rascals were biting every time my bait would be in the water. Couldn't even set the depth properly! Fishing first thing in the morning tomorrow. Oh yeah, stay away from Lake X! About 4 inches of ice on it now...

Lakes aren't rivers, there is no current. If you fall through, the most important thing not to do is to dive under the ice and swim away...

There was 4" of beautiful clear ice on the pond, I seen on another forum today that guys have been going out about 200 yards onto Wabamun. Thars a but to much for me, but thankfully I will get to brag about the fish I caught for another week or so.

Too bad I will have to wait another week before I hit the lake. My bad knee is giving me hard time.

Thank goodness I still have a week of Whitetail hunting in Strath, or I'd be tempted.
One concern I have is though I might be ok to venture out, once I pull the type of fish I catch out of the water, the extra weight might cause a problem.
