Why do a lot of people not appreciate what is on their doorstep, i'd have to travel 2 hours from stony plain to fish any decent trout streams, my personal opinion about someone calling the bow " disgusting " is just trying to get a reaction, basically if you don't like it don't fish it, the bow fishers are not going to lose any sleep about one less angler on a recognised world class fishery, just saying

To each their own.

I learned to fly fish on the Bow River. After learning the skills to consistently catch fish on the Bow, almost every other river (except the N. Raven) is fly fishing on easy mode.

Amen! Going part time from Edmonton is hard on the ego. One trip you feel like a king and the next trip the fool. There is a so much to learn on that river...

I caught over 20 fish on the August full moon. 2 days later, skunked. It is an unforgiving river.

[QUOTE=1stLand;3608572]I know I am going to get flamed for this, but here it goes.
I have avoided going fishing in the Bow River for years because I hate fishing in the city and I also hate fishing in waters that has Water Treatment Effluent dumped into it.
I Fish Mountain Lakes, streams and creeks primarily.
Out of boredom I tried the Bow River this evening and I feel like I need to scrub my Fishing Rod and Line and Flies in a vat of bleach.
The Bow River smelled disgusting, and holy smokes is it ever filled with mud, weeds and slime.
I don't know how some of you boys do it.[Quote]
The Bow is an awesome river, anyone who thinks otherwise is obviously high on crack or suffering from a severe brain injury.
OOOoooohhhhh.......... I get it, you couldn't catch any of the Bow's highly educated trout, their not easy to catch like in the mountain streams and lakes like your used to.
So instead of admiting defeat, you insult the river.
You my friend, are a real peach!

And yet you insult the OP? Not sure how old you are so I will go easy.
Hey Bill why do you have to be so offensive? Most of your first sentence (bolded part) wasnt needed! You could have left that out and still got your message through.

It has taken me 3 seasons on the bow to truly start having success and then I picked up a fly rod this summer and have to start all over again.
Its the all defeating days and the steep learning curve that makes it so satisfying, the bow is an amazing fishery that offers a wide variety of challenges and hurdles, just when you think you have it figured out it can come back and remind you there is still much to learn.
I am thankful to have such a wonderful river in my backyard, its both rewarding and life changing.
You may find it disgusting but like the saying goes, One mans garbage is another mans treasure.
Good luck out there!

Oh yea the fishing was good, but by August there were plenty of places in the main river channel was actually choked with weeds. You had to fish around the flotsam.
