Default Calgary community lakes

Have any of the community lakes opened up for ice fishing yet?
I’m in McKenzie lake and it is still closed to ice fishing with thin ice signs up.
The association says maybe next weekend.
My son is itching to get out and ice fish.

I am in Mahogany and they suck and wait till like 10" of ice....Will be February for us like the past years...

I may drive on this thickness of ice depending on what I drive to ice fish, let alone walk on it for sure...

I believe mckenzie is waiting for 8” as well, but once they get to ghat point then they go full bore with setting up the hockey rinks with lights and the skating paths around the lake. Last few years we were on the ice by beginning of December.

McKenzie opened last week and the big bows are cruising the shallows.
My four year old hooked into a hog and was pretty excited then released him back down the hole to be caught another day.

Waiting for a hold to freeze up on Sundance. Then it will be perch bonking season. Tragic that some low life put perch in Chaparral.

It will be cool catching browns, brooks and rainbows through the ice.

What is in MacKenzie?

Rainbow, Brooks and Browns. Latter 2 have only been stocked the last 2 years. Grass carp as well.

Nice. These multi species fisheries are a blast.

I call three species a trifecta and four species a grand slam.
