Default Where did you buy your Gun Safe?

Father in law is looking for a gun safe for his house, wants it to hold about 30 guns or so.

Just wondering where you guys found had the best safes for the best prices, he's currently looking at Cabelas.

He's trying to stay under the $1800 mark.

Thanks!

Costco has a Winchester Marksman 40 Gun Safe for $1300 delivered to the sidewalk in front of your house after that you're on you're own.

If he is going to put 30 firearms in it, he should have a safe built for 50 or more, unless he likes "safe kisses".

This is true especially if there is a lot of rifles with scopes

Bought a 14 gun safe at costco a couple years back. Haven't had any issues with it other than 14 guns does NOT mean 14 guns....

Look interesting, can’t imagine shipping is cheap though.

I would bet that most "safe kisses" come from bolt handles and clumsy handling.......I remove a lot of the bolts from mine when in the safe.

To fit 24 firearms in a safe rated for 24 firearms; they are crammed tighter than I would ever place them in a safe. I just avoid that situation altogether, and no risk of safe kisses

To me, instead of buying one safe for 40 guns, I would buy 3 safes for 15 guns each. The smaller safes would be a lot easier to handle.

Default Cabelas

You need to ask yourself is this meant to potentially protect your rifles from a home disaster or just safe and legal storage? I went for a higher end safe, ended up with a Cabelas branded Liberty safe that’s a 60 gun. Believe me, with my big prs, tactical rifles and scopes, 25 rifles is all you fit without bouncing them off each other. To me, pay the $1800 to protect tens of thousands of dollars worth of gear as best you can from theft, and maybe a fire is worth the money. Cannon & liberty for higher end retail models is where I would look. I love mine

I have a 48 gun Liberty, it allows for legal storage but I'm under no illusions how secure they are. Anyone intent on getting in and equipped with basic tools would undoubtedly be able to crack it, when finances and home situation allow I am going for either a custom concrete safe room or a real safe such as Graffunder/Amsec.

Do you keep your rifles in the soft cases when in the safe? I do and can't see how they would get damaged. Takes up way more room though, an 8 gun safe barely holds 5.

Bang for buck, you would be better off with a concrete room. It would securely hold a lot more than just firearms.

Costco at Kalispell, MT, had 36 gun (24 gun) safes rated for 1200' F for 75 min. for $499USD. Going down with my trailer and bring back 3 this summer.

If your looking for a safe, I'd diligently search Kijiji. An example:

Two combo Dibolt, 1,700 lbs, asking $1,500.00:
https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/ODAwWDQ1M...aieHB/$_59.JPG

They pop up relatively often as they are big and heavy and appeal to a limited audience. People often just want them gone.

If you're simply searching for a nice looking Residential Security Locker/Container, Costco, John Deer, and Peavey Mart have some nice ones.

Costco

John Deere

Like this one. There's concrete on the other side of the wood.

I think with $1800 you can get something very decent - not including the cost of a couple cases of beer and a few pizzas for you and 3 of your buddies to wrestle this 500lb-600lb thing to where you want to set it up.

Like others have mentioned, however, cut whatever they say is the gun capacity in half and that's realistic if you want to store and remove your guns without "kisses" or having to unload half your safe every time just to get at the guns you want to take out for a walk.

I have a liberty from Cabella's. Delivered to door and then my buddies and I fitted it in by slipping it into place and bolting it up where I wanted.

These things aren't impossible to steal - but these guys are going to get a work out.

Bought a 14 gun Liberty from Cabela's when they were on sale for $499. I wish I bought a bigger safe as 7 scoped rifles and 1 shotgun are the max I can fit in it.
