Default 2018 fish stocking

Does anybody know when the 2018 fish stocking starts and what lake they will stock first?

Gotta get the ice off the lakes first. Jokes aside, it usually starts in May sometime. Southern lakes maybe a little earlier if ice free. I think the order of stocking is fairly random.

April and may depending on the location. They dont need much open water so will likely start soon if they havent already. If you are wondering about a particular lake I would look up a bunch of recent years and see when it is usually stocked, maybe add a week or two because of later ice off this year.

Stocking is dependant on water temperature.

The water temp of the lake/pond/stream can’t be too drastically different from the water temp of the hatchery or the water truck that brought them to the waterbody.
The fish are then acclimiatized to the new water temp by submerging the bucket in shallow water to reduce mortality from the sudden temperature change.

Not sure if this is standard in all provinces etc but this is the best way to keep mortality at or near zero.

When we walked Splake fingerlings a few KM into a backcountry lake in Sask, we even had an aerator tube taped into the gargabe bag that was carrying the fish in the garage bin

Just out of curiosity does anyone know if they take winter kill into consideration? Replacing fish that died because of the long winter.

Hahaha - just dumping all the fish on top of the ice! New meaning of ice fishing for sure.

There's a link of stocking report and map for 2017.
https://mywildalberta.ca/fishing/fis...king-maps.aspx

You can see the dates they were stocking around you last year and what they did stock in particular.

I think they plan accordingly but are affected by seasonal variations. But this year I would believe more lakes had complete winterkill than most years. Saw nice dead browns in Grotto a few days ago.

As of may 2 2018 no fish stocked in grotto or lorette and sibbald lake so low I doubt they will stock it this year also sibbald pond frozen solid

Aca website has posted about a dozen lakes they have already stocked. Mostly small ponds and reservoirs in towns like Cipperly and Emerson.

ACA already stocked multiple areas. However, they stock very small fish, like 15cm

I'd love to catch one of those big brookies out of Nicholas Sheran. No luck so far!

I was there on Saturday (sibbald pond) and it was frozen end to end but the lake was open. Not sure if there is 12 feet of water in it. Not even 12 cubic feet lol
