Ice sled recommendations

Hello,

Looking for some guidance from experienced ice fishermen regarding best size sled to get. And any other tips or recommended supplies.

Been getting geared up so far Got an Eskimo 450xd 7 inch manual auger with battery drill. One little buddy heater planning on 20lb propane tank. 4 Ice rods and reels one used tip up got four Coleman camp chairs small tackle box ice scoop small tackle box. Small gas bbq. Cooler. Toilet bucket. Battery light

I have a Jet Sled, it's pretty good. Good prices, I think I got the XL for $100 at Cabelas a few years ago. You will just have to figure out how big of one you need. I put puck board on the ribs of mine, slides nice. Welded up a hitch to pull behind the snowmobile, bought cover at cabelas also.

Get some of those rubber gloves that have some grit to them. Makes it easier to grab a fish if your keeping them. Have lost lots over the year that get part way up or all the way out of the hole only to shake the hook off and go right back down. Don't forget your ice scoop to keep the hole clear!

BIG. Jet Sled XL or bigger. You've got a lot of stuff already....next comes a shovel and a tent.

I have the Pelican 60" sled and I think its a pretty ideal size. If you need a bigger sled than that, you should probably either ditch some gear or invest in a 4x4.

Pelican 75 or comparable is what you’re after
I carry almost identical to what you’ve got in my 75 and it’s perfect

60-75" or so cuz as you progress into ice fishing things add up quickly as in equipment so if you can afford bigger than go that route.....they are also great for other chores too...hauling game out of the woods, fire wood etc....

Remember if it just barely takes your gear now go for a larger sled because you will upgrade tent size etc in the future especially if you are taking family and friends out etc.

Someone on a Facebook group posted that Costco in Sherwood Park is selling Pelican Sleds (52" long x 24" wide) with runners and a cover for $70.

Now that is a perfect size for me, but I'm only ever pulling it myself or unloading it from the vehicle. If I had a quad or snowmobile, I'd be thinking about a larger one for the reasons others mentioned above.

I personally use a Jetsled1 currently. I'll be making it into a Smitty Sled soon enough.

Got an XL from Fishing Hole for $119
Never heard of a Smitty Sled. Got old skis and wood so another project :-)

Now if I can just learn how to fish :-)
Wife wants trout and Burbot but guess season for Burbot is over around here so it will be trout or whitefish:-)

Otter Magnum is mine. Carries a ton of gear, pulls sweet. Great for any use, fishing or hunting.

If you're pulling behind a skidoo, nothing beats the Koenders Outback Trapper 2. Best piece of gear I've ever bought for ice fishing.

I've had it for a long time and used it for sledding a lot over the years and now that I'm getting into ice fishing I've been using it and its not too bad. Its big enough to hold my hand auger, a bucket, a lucerne crate and a backpack, so its big enough for me so far. I'll probably upgrade at some point in the next few years but it gets the job done for now.

I picked one of them up yesterday as a secondary sled. I also have a Pelican 75. For the record, they both use the same hitch.

I am usually using the Pelican 75. I can fit my Strikemaster 40V, my Eskimo Quickfish 6i, couple flashers, tackle boxes (5-6 Plano 3700 size), a couple Eskimo folding stools, and a soft sided rod bag. That makes for a really full sled though. If I want to bring my camera gear, a cooler, and my 20lb propane bottle I have to get creative or I overload the sled and risk breaking something.

I got the secondary sled to daisy chain with the first one and bring out all the gear in one go. I should mention that I have a family of 5 and I like to film our times, so I have a bunch of camera gear to bring as well.

I have this same sled and slides a lot easier than others that r wider. PS what ever u buy. Purchase the cover that goes with it.

I use a blue tarp, larger than needed and bungie all the way around the edge. Holds tight and you have a tarp there. Great if there is flood water to put gear on.

I use a jet sled xl i believe it is 60" in length I can carry all my gear in it. I have a hard plastic latching tote which holds my big buddy heate,r rods, tackle, lunch, and my aqua view camera. I also carry my gas auger 5lb propane tank 949 insulated tent 2 chairs 1 shovel in the sled. All stapped down with some bungee cords. It works great for me.
