Elk Bullets

Used the Partition since 1980, no big reason to switch, it did what I've asked it to do. Was impressed with RWS DK, it it was pretty impressive in how it punched thru punched thru some heavier bone and a brisket on a deer, it's a dual core style bullet, like to see what it could do on a moose on the same shot.
I've stayed away from monos as the partitions have worked so well, but I have one gun that uses them, and I wouldn't be afraid to try a TTSX or an LRX, they are certainly establishing their track records, perhaps more inclined to the LRX, seems to maybe have more versatility than a TTSX. May as well use good bullets if you can when hunting in areas with elk or moose in them, never know for sure just what you'll see, it's a cheap investment considering all the other money you spend to get there, to be able to take that shot.

Lately I’ve been using sierra game king 375 -250 gr SBT in my 375 Ruger with great results form Elk, moose, Deer, coyotes, hand loads at 2840 fps

What caliber/ weight do you use? I worked up a load using the 200gr ELD-X at around 2500pfs in my 30-06 id like to try on elk.. have you driven them into shoulders? How do they stand up? Seriously curious.

My go to is a .277 150 gr partition for everything. Shoot them were it counts, they don't go far.

As you probably figured , I think JD was referring to the original X bullet. not the TSX.

For many years I used a .338wm for elk, powered with 210 nosler handloads. Most of them dropped in their tracks.
My last bull was with a .375 HH using Sierra Gamekings. The gamekings were a new selection for me, the result of mass hoarding and trying to find enough boxes of one type to prep a load for. The gamekings performed as good or better than any partition and weight retention was incredible. Next best thing to a mono bullet, and I'll gladly use them again.
My last elk was a cow, shot with a custom 8x57, using Sellier and Bellot factory ammo, and the old "Tug" bullet design. At 260 yards, the cow stepped 10 feet into the bush and collapsed. I didnt recover the bullet on that one to report on weight retention.

I have some X 210 grain in 338 I would give someone…just trying to figure out who I dislike that much!

I never shot any game with them because three shots completely copper fouled my barrel so badly I could barely keep those same three shots on the target at 100 yards - about a 14” group.

TSX, TTSX and LRX are nothing like the old X bullets.

so sounds like the terminal ascent and partition would be the best of the best ..
Compared to the ttsx and such , blue tips

-Less fouling
-better terminal performance
-shoot thru's / without
-expansion

Less fouling is certainly not the case. Better terminal performance is pretty subjective, and if you are shooting game inside, say, 600 yards expansion is a non issue.

It probably doesn’t matter what bullet you choose, but at least base choices on facts, not internet feelings.

338WM - 225g Grand slams.
300WM - Accubonds
308- Accubonds
270- Accubonds
6.5CM- Accubonds and some ELDx that shoot great but there is nothing left of bullet under 100m, hence the Accubond

Key word is Bond.. prefer the Bonded well over cup and core. Majority of our Elk kills are within 100m in bush. If I were to load up some cup/core it would be ELDM over ELDX and only for 300wm over 500m, say 208g with high BC.
Only used copper in the 45-70 and haven't had the chance with Elk yet.
Have been thinking to try LRX, looks like a great choice.

The dual core lock ring Grand Slam bullets are a thing of the past. The newer made Grand Slam’s are a nothing more than a slightly heavier jacket hot core bullet with a blunted tip.
