Default Quick Mule Deer Hunt

I had the pleasure of accompanying a young man and his father on on a mule deer hunt this morning. We didn't see any large bucks, but the teen made perfect shots on two
Mule deer this morning. For being only 15, he was very calm and composed, and it was a pleasure to share the experience with him and his father.

Great job in taking this young fella out.

I’m sure Sns2 and his son had a lot of fun.

What WMU did you go in?

It was an enjoyable trip, as are all hunts with a youth. We were in 505. A special thanks to Kurt505 for his assistance in setting up the hunt.

Always the bridesmaid never the bride...... lol.

I’ve found over the past few years I get as much or more enjoyment out of helping hunters be successful than actually being successful myself I just wish I could have made it out there to see the action.

Really glad it worked out as planned, but I had little doubt it would turn out any other way.

PS, those mulies will be the best tasting venison you guys have ever eaten!

Congrats!!!

Thank you very much to Elk11 and Kurt505 for making the hunt possible. What an enjoyable morning. We got out about twenty minutes before legal light. Time to shoot the breeze and get setup. Elk has a great relationship with my son, so he worked the sticks and rangefinder, giving calm coaching as my boy shot one through the heart at 170, and the other through the lungs at 150, while I filmed them. Soo enjoyable when things are calm and you can savor the moment. We were out for meat, not horns, so were happy with the baby buck anyhow.

PS: F&W make some puzzling decisions at times, but allowing youth hunters to partner on deer tags is a very wise one.

Good friends. Great memories. Doesn't get better really.

The young man was set up for success, a rifle he was comfortable with, that was properly sighted in, and he had practised with shooting sticks in advance. Everyone else was calm, so he stayed calm, and made perfect shots. Things could not have gone smoother. Of course it helped that we were set to an area with such a healthy deer population.

You got that right. I met both men through this forum. And to add to the AO connection, another forum member - Kennedy - who I am hunting with on Wednesday- actually gifted my son the rifle, a Model 70 Extreme Weather in an HS Precision stock. Like bizarre kindness and generosity.

The finest kind of people I know have been met on AO.

People can whine about this forum at times, but there are the very best kind of people on AO.
