Are you seeing any sign around? My area was full of wolves last year, and f&w poisoned them. It is incredibly effective. So far this fall/winter year I have only been able to find two.

Hey popcan, cool. That strychnine is a killer. I had mixed feelings coming across it. Personally I like the wolves too but they kill every damn thing.
The good news is there is always room somewhere for a good wolf hunter.
Good luck to you. I am on to a couple of new happy hunting grounds my self.

From those pics I would have guessed black but figured you must have had a colour pic of him. I've never seen a chocolate coloured wolf.

Really !! you’ve never seen a chocolate colored wolf. I’ve seen the blue tinged ones at the taxidermist. The fist wolf I ever took down was a chocolate. That’s what that color looks like on ir cam. Here’s a chocolate from the cam at another spot from a couple of years back.
Here’s one in full color…

No I haven't, that's why I said I've never seen a chocolate coloured wolf.
I'm sorry if I'm seeing something different then everybody else but that wolf laying with your rifle just looks like a late season black wolf with an orange setting sun on it. Maybe it's just the picture ?

altho the light's real warm, i'm seeing some orange then to brown. take a look at the teeth, clean white-so accurate rendering of colour as to conditions.
great coverage Popcan, luv your logistics and "steady as she goes" approach!

I’m all up for learning something new here. So what does that mean late season black wolf . When is late season? May? would that wolf next to the gun have been all black early season? This is all for fun fellas plus color isn’t that important. In the mean time here’s a couple of more pics of that particular one. Keep in mind back in 2009 many of my pictures were heavily saturated unlike today.
Cheers fellas … if something goes down out there I’ll share it

Sorry Popcan, I should have been more clear. By late season I meant after the fur is prime on the wolf. Prime would be November to Feb, maybe a little bit into March if the winter has been cold and you're far enough North. The grey in the black would likely have been there regardless of season.
This is an early season wolf, the fur is thick but it doesn't quite have the really full winter hide yet. We killed these ones mid Sept-October.
This one was killed late season (May) you can see how the hair is thinning and it just doesn't look as full. Sorry I don't have a pic of the Hunter holding it up.
Where as these three are late December or what I would call prime
I'm sorry if it came across wrong Popcan, like I said I've never seen a chocolate coloured wolf before. It must be my computer or I'm missing something looking at the pics of that wolf.
Regardless killing any wolf at any time of the year isn't easy. Congrats on your success and good luck on your continued pursuit.

It's Tork
and I was just trying to explain what I meant. Sorry if pictures of wolves derailed the wolf hunting thread.
