So Gus and Beeguy:
After all these posts what is going to happen to the Bow in terms of fishing after this big washout.? I have no idea.
hope you don't complain to the moderator about me for this question. I think it is quite legitimate.

I don't have a clue, it's odd knowing what the river has always been - sorta like - and then seeing a glimpse of it on the way to fishing and literally exclaiming @$#%@&%!!!!. Glenmore and downstream is going to be interesting to watch.
It's a good thing - I think -, like long draw said. Before the dams for flood control and energy, it would have done this more frequently, as severe, less severe, who knows.
It also really made people re-think things and realise their community, and politics fell to the wayside.
As for whether the fellow from U of Sask knows anything - which I'm sure he does on the subject - I think he would also say that he doesn't have a clue either.
My worry is that the city will start plonking down more anti-erosion boulders along the riverbank.

Gus:
Do you have any information about the Livingston hatchery?
If you can find something about the hatchery's status please post it for all of us to see.
Thank you.

Yes I read it.
Some scientists absolutely do that.
In fact you will find many scientists who would say damn near anything to get some funding.

I was thinking about the stupid money spent on making the weir boater accessible or whatever. I wonder what all that work will look like now and if the river has made the passage more dangerous.

You are new to Alberta, have you been to Bassano Dam before the floods, or Carseland?

Let's go out and save some fish. There are probably a lot of places where there are stranded browns, rainbows and RMWF. On the weekend we should go on a mission.

So the guy is right the water shed did change, so what, it has always been changing and that is the general BS the guy is spouting when he make it seem like this "change" thing is new

I've never fished the Bow river But I did a quick search and discovered that the bow has indeed flooded before and yet people still seem to catch the odd trout in there. I suspect the same will hold true for the future. This might be an interesting thread to bookmark and come back to in a year and see if doomsday for the Bow really has happened.

Target spots that still have moving water. Ditches, side channels and the like.
Fish in standing water won't last long.

Problem is, is some of those ditches are quite aways from the natural river and riverside ditches are still river like. The douglas dale golf course could be holding some too.

water came up a lot higher than that over the weekend. should be interesting to see what it looks like now, the Bow was still high and fast, well over runoff levels last night, and the Oldman had come down a fair bit.

Nothing against Saskatchewan, it's just that... maybe they should have picked someone from Alberta or BC to talk about trout in the mountains.

On a happy note, there were some adult mayflys around last night while I was walking the dog. Things look to be draining quite well, i am not sure how much rescuing will be needed.
Looks like there is a new channel by the Mallard Point foot bridge, and maybe those are the spots to focus efforts as they dry up. Any shallow flood pond will get past 75F pretty quick once it stops flowing killing what is there.

Anywhere near Calgary really. I just want to get out there and save some fish.
