Got to spend an hour trimming and deburring 300 win mag brass after work today!

Started another batch 168 grain loads my irons rifle, trimmed up the brass and will charger them tomorrow, then off to the range with them!

I worked through 108 7mm SAUM today at the bench. From removing primers to trimming and prepping. Then primed, charged and pressed in 168 gr Nosler Custom Competitions. Going out Monday to ring some steel, basically used a full pound of powder today for that set of reloads. I knew I went through a lot of powder but never broke it down before

Brass prep day today. Four different calibers with a hundred cases for each. Tomorrow...charging and seating.

Managed to get 18 boxes of 28 gauge ammo reloaded (until I ran myself out of powder) and resized and prepped 300 cases for my 30-06 collection.

Deprimed, sonic cleaned, and AMP annealed 100 6.5 CM brass

Tonight was a few hours with the salt bath annealer, brass for myself and a friend.

It seems I have an endless amount of reloading work to get too, one bite at a time I suppose.

Added another RCBS Rockchucker Supreme , two case trays, powder trickler, funnels , 2 Brand new Lyman 55 powder chargers ( from Corlanes) and an extra set of 7 mm rem mag dies to the bench. Thanks to the AO buy and sell.

Finished adding about 5 pounds of weight to my buddy's rifle then headed out to test those Chinchagas DaleJ sent me .
WOW, those bullets were stacking about an inch at 300 meters!

Over the last 2 days I cleaned and prepped 100 × 223 Rem brass and also remounted my scope on my 7-08. Time well spent!

Did an interesting study on two bullets I plan on using in my new barrel coming. 6br. Was surprised at the results. Used a very sensitive scale, measures .005 gr. Sample size was 10 bullets of each. Length was to ogive.

Received a couple of boxes from Prophet River over the last few days.

850 rounds of brass for various calibers, 2 sets of dies and 2 reloading manuals:
200 - Lapua in 22-250
100 - Lapua in .308 Win. and RCBS dies to match.
100 - Lapua in .260 Rem. and Redding dies to match.
200 - Remington in 22-250
250 - Nosler in .204 Ruger

Appears I'm going to be spending some time at the bench with the case prep center. Good times.

Spent a day going thru the Speer #15 and Nosler #9 manuals.

A blend of the old and the new in dispensing. The new Lee powder measure works great.



And, I’m really going old school now. A Dipper set!

Well, so far so good with the Perfect Powder Measure from Lee. But...you do really need to coat and/or condition the internal surfaces with graphite. Boy does ball powder stick to it before its conditioned. I was experimenting with it last night with ball and extruded powders. It's pretty accurate too.

And yeah, the dippers can be great! I picked up that complete set off of the EE on cgn. It even has the old school "slide rule" scale. That's really neat....to see just how estimation became a precision art form. I mainly picked it up to compliment the AutoTrickler when working with powder throws below 8 grains or so.

I also bought the Lee unit to compliment the AutoTrickler. I'm on the list for the new V4 Autotrickler too. Now, I have dedicated "work stations" in the loading room. One for brass cleaning. One for powder dispensing. And the main bench for everything else. It's coming together.

spent the last few evenings researching and loading trial loads for my
450 BPE double rifle. These are a straight case 3 1/4" originally designed for black powder, but I'm trying to find the right nitro load. IMR 4198 seems to be the most popular with like minded shooters, one that will shoot both barrels close to the same POI at the traditional 50 yard target.
I recall telling people in the past that as intimidating as the round looks, it really recoils more like a .243. After trialling a few dozen rounds I would like to update that comment to more of a .338 oomph!!
Current load sitting at 46 gr 4198 with a 300 gr .458 jacketted bullet. Using 4x.44 caliber felt wads for stuffer inbetween the powder and bullet.
The gun itself is a beautiful old John Beattie & Sons hammer rifle, in its origianl canvas and leather travel case. Lots of fun.

Started modifying my dearly departed Dad's .45 Italian made Kentucky rifle for a new lock.
The original ( Uberti)) was terrible, main spring was weak and the tumbler had rotten heat treating as well.
I bought a Davis lock years ago that was close, and have just got around to setting it in.
I stopped last night, continued this morning , but have to get aa torch to adjust the hammer too hit the nipple.
pile of work drilling and tapping mounting holes, shortening thee anvil, taking out a pile of wood, and filing the lock recess for the snail, but it is almost done!

fires perfectlly after I heated the hammer and orientated it soo it woul hit the nipple evenly.
metaal to wood fit could have been a bit better but it's pretty tough to add wood that wasn't there! LOL.
At Least I will be able to hunt with Dad's rifle this Fall.

Time for some precision loads. My last outing showed wonderfully on the chrony. Snapping the steel at 1500m with the 6.5x47 Lapua was great trigger therapy. Here’s the results on the LabRadar...



Nice large sample size. Pretty decent spread and SD numbers here! (+18c) So I thought that I just might try to better that. Time to precision size...



That number on the caliper represents .0005” shoulder bump from fire formed. Neck tension is .002”. (I use a Whidden F.L. bushing die.) The charging is as accurate as the lab grade FX120i scale measures. To the granule.

6.5x47L with Lapua cases and CCI BR4 SRP. And 38.0gr of Varget ready to propel the 139gr Lapua Scenar down range.

Spent a couple of hours this morning putting some 223Rem varmint rounds together for my son. He wanted to shoot Hornady Vmax so I found some 55 grain pills and they are propelled by CFE223 to start. Five rounds at each weight starting at 25.0grains up to 27.0 grains in 0.5 increments. Hopefully one groups well. We will try next weekend on his birthday.

I had a zoom meeting yesterday (annual meeting, mic and video off), so I took my laptop into the room, and cranked out a couple hundred 12 gauge target loads.

Mounted a 3X scope and loaded some 200 gr Partitions in 30-06 cases and went long range shooting. :-)
