What bait to use to live trap a Rock Marmot
I live in South Calgary, a couple of blocks from Fish Creek.
We have a Rock Marmot visiting our yard. There is a large playground behind our property. Grass, dandelions, clover, everything it want for food.
But it loves our yard. Wife wants it trapped and removed but not killed.
I have a live trap. Question is, what bait?
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Roger

I would try a carrot for bait.

I’d try peanuts in the shell.

Be careful what you attract, skunks are omnivores. I'd be thinking some kind of grain or seed. Rock marmot ? would it be a Groundhog ?

A piece of aluminum irrigation pipe, preferably 4 inch.

The 4 inch pipe sounds good and maybe some alfalfa in it for bait

There are no Hoary or Yellow-bellied Marmots in Calgary.
Perhaps you are confusing it with a Groundhog?

A tablespoon or two of Crunchy Peanut Butter with a few peanuts at the trap entrance .... if it's in your yard, you'll have it in hours.

It could also be a columbian ground squirrel too. Lots of folks call them big reds.

Sounds like a ground hog to me as well . They look similar to a marmot but live in lower elevations . Had one around my place of work and the young girl there was saying she saw a beaver bear lol .

Although columbian ground squirrels are large they're quite a bit smaller than ground hogs .

Could just be a gopher for all we know. Columbian ground squirrels are usually found at higher elevations.
