Default Ya Ha Tinda

Thinking of taking some kids out with the horses.
Is Ya Ha open amid covid ?
Is there staging areas that are safe to leave truck and trailer? Recent stories make one nervous parking a rig out west.
Any advise on day or over night trips ?

Just got back from there. Both camp grounds full as of Wednesday, not likely to change for a while. There's an attendant at the Big Horn to monitor access and numbers. All the random spots are filled as well. Be tough to find a spot to park your rig, but I think it's still safe. Horse people tend to look after each other. I always think, after labor day is good, but this year who knows ?

Do you book a reservation? Or first come first serve?

First come, first serve and it's a long drive just to be frustrated. My son squatted Wednesday night in the hopes of getting a spot at Big Horn, but the attendant nixed that. They did get a spot at Eagle Creek that had been saved for a no show, so it did work out. Lots of people driving through in hopes of getting lucky though. If you do go, apparently, there's a dead horse on a trail near Eagle lake, marked off, won't be long before a bear finds it.

Most people that go up there, go for multiple days, doesn't help turnover. It's become a very popular place, with good reason. Eagle Creek used to be able to handle the over flow, but not any more and they are operating at reduced capacity due to Covid.
