Default Moose camp, archery giant.

Well I'm back from a week chasing moose with a few friends of mine.
The week before departing we received copious amounts of rain. Making remote moose hunting very challenging... Our intended road actually was not driveable so I came up with an alternative location.

The trip started off very windy, gusting to 70-80kph... Calling moose was not ideal. But on the first evening I managed to call a beauty 48" class bull to 50yds from my partner. But the epic wind kept him from releasing. The wind made calling nearly impossible the next few days, we found some promising areas though.

As the wind slowed the snow came in, we got about 2" of snow during one day. The next day was clear and crisp. We walked in 4km to our new found area. After a short session of cow calls and bull raking a distant cow call got our attention. Shortly after we could hear soft grunts in several directions. As the grunts stopped we waited 45min, I did some more soft cow calls but no answers. As we were packing up to leave my buddy whispered panicially MOOSE! I looked and saw a great 50" bull sneaking in the bush 50m away. I grabbed my moose paddles and began the show... We locked eyes and I swayed my head and raked some brush. Soon I had him Tranced and we circled at 50yds for a while. My shooter tucked tight behind me ranged him at 47yds, we closed in another 15 and got ready to draw, but as we split apart mr moose panicked and ran away like a chicken... We chased two other grunting bulls that morning but no success, one was another 50"+ bull.

We couldn't get on them for a few days and making it back to the truck after a 15km hike my friend let out a grunt. Instantly a bull fired up within 50yds. I poked out onto the road to see a giant bull 20yds away drooling and eye rolling. But just as it was about to happen on the middle of the road he saw something and took off like a freight train.

Well the last evening was finally upon us and me and the guy I was hunting with only called in a cow... But when we got back to camp our other two guys were pumped about a "skull" they found. He grabbed his phone and said check it out... It took me a solid 5 seconds to realize he arrowed a giant!

A huge congrats to my buddy Dave and all of our crew on a successful hunt.
Even got a trailcam hung on the deboned carcass and gutpile.

Here's hoping the IPhone doesn't auto rotate the pictures again....
