Default Monday afternoon success

Opening day, I took my son out and he got his first archery deer - a 185" muley buck.
I had invited a friend of mine for a hunt this year, and he's on a quest for his first mule deer with his bow.
This morning we spotted a small group, with one big shooter and two smaller 165-170-ish bucks. Closed the distance and he got a 45 yard shot at the big one about 30 minutes ago. Unfortunately, didn't make a great shot, and hit h too far back. We're watching the deer now - he ran a couple hundred yards and bedded.

Will post updates as they happen!

if he bedded he's yours! leave him alone and let him die. If you can see him bedded back away slowly and make sure he doesn't see or smell you. Just watch him and if he's going to expire you will see him do it

^^^^^THIS

And be patient. Let him expire on his own or you'll be writing about the big buck that got hit hard and then ran away.

Wow some people just can't say hey, hope it works out for ya!
Hunt long enough and you will make a bad shot, feel like crap let alone have a group jump on ya but hey that's life, don't mind cuz some don't matter is what I say.
To the OP post a pic up, would be nice to see.
You guys did the right thing, sit and wait or back out but don't push him.

Congrats on the deer! Let's see some pictures already haha. Don't worry about these keyboard warrior hunters that don't ever make a mistake, you realized it was a bad shot and did the right thing! Half these guys probably would of made the same shot then ran after it immediately.

Thanks man! The detractors out there kinda made me think "who asked you, anyway? I thought this was a forum for guys to tell it as it is, instead of condemning each other?"
Anyway, yes, we got him out, cleaned up, skinned and caped for the taxidermist. Scored him at just over 179 gross. Yesterday was my turn, and the buck I was hunting was with 8 other non-shooters bedded in a small patch of waist high grass. One of the others busted me.
Pics of Gregs first archery mule deer, and the buck I tried for yesterday.

***i should have been more clear - this wasn't my son on the hunt. My son got his buck on opening day... I posted about that buck on the archery harvest thread. This was a buddy from work who's never done a spot and stalk mule deer hunt ***
