My friend and I go every year somewhere to camp and take our kids out for the weekend in September. We usually go to Chain lakes and I see it is closed as well. Luckily I was doing some research. I put in a call to the Forestry service to update with some snow and rain coming Thursday and Friday but doubt that they will open it that quick . We actually like the heated building they have there with cooktops and dish washing facilities. It really helps when it has been cold out amost every September we go...LOL...My son and I went to PCR last year and we had a great time....Got wifi and hooked up live stream from my laptop to my 32" in the trailer and watched the world cup. We also did some fishing as that was the whole point in going

Presumably because Velcro sticks to wool, and rams are covered in wool.

The North Burnt timber closure has been lifted. This is where the bear attack happened a few weeks ago.

I received a call yesterday from F&W rep. and we discussed the situation of closures and long awaited draws. He was sympathetic, and himself a hunter. He suggested that the closure will likely be lifted, but if not they are discussing a tag surrender program. Wouldn't hurt to voice you opinion to help support their decision. Maybe the future sees a program where if a particular zone has a fire hazard of high or extreme, a tag surrender can be optioned. Would result in less people in dangerous conditions, bothering land owners who are concerned about the fire risks. Seems quite acceptable to me and easy peasy, and a win win for all, land owners, Gov. and Hunters.

I packed this morning in anticipation. I see no mention of wood stoves. Have a good hunt everyone.
EDIT: Outfitter tent with wood stove is NOT permitted even with spark arrestor although this may change in the next few days if precipitation occurs as forecast.

DESCRIPTION
FIRE BAN/OHV RESTRICTION IN EFFECT
A Fire Ban remains in effect for the Calgary Forest Area. This applies to all of the forested areas south of Highway 532 within the Forest Protection Area.
Under the Fire Ban, all existing fire permits are cancelled and no new fire permits will be issued until further notice. An Off-Highway Vehicle Restriction also remains in place. This prohibits the recreational use of OHVs in this area.
Prohibited
Open fires
Charcoal briquettes, turkey fryers and tiki torches
Fireworks and exploding targets
Allowed
Portable propane fire pits that are CSA approved or UL certified
Gas or propane stoves and barbecues that are CSA approved or UL certified
Catalytic or infrared-style heaters
The Fire Ban and OHV Restriction will remain in effect until conditions improve.

I asked about that. Apparently, you can go as far as the outfitters camp, according to SRD , as of last Friday.

Closure has been lifted and full access to the public from 532 to the crowsnest.
Looks like 402 is now open for Rifle season

However on the Alberta fire ban site it is saying that there is still a complete OHV ban...

It's getting difficult to decipher the layers of orders and closures. A new order saying "OHV'S and fires are now permitted" seems easier than "revoking order number 26/2017" Anyone have anything firm on the OHV closure for the Pass?

Called the F&W Office in Blairmore this morning and they confirmed forestry north of Crowsnest Pass (402) is open to hunting and random camping, Fire and OHV ban still on.

Looks like the OHV ban has been fully lifted in WMU 402 and crowsnest. You can have fires in fire rings but still no fires allowed in random camping areas.

From the alberta fireban web site:
Under the restriction fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis.

Wood campfires in backcountry or random camping areas

Safe wood campfires within fire rings in campgrounds

I would say the wood stoves are still not allowed because you are not in a campground, if it did not say campground i would say you would be good to go.

Drove in there today, lots of bikes and quads around, and lots of trucks with trailers parked at the staging areas. So I'd guess yes.
