Stabbing is pretty brutal, all up close and personal. There's no mistaking what you're doing. Many people stabbed are injured, this many fatalities from stabbing really has me wondering on who did it, what kind of knife, what led up to it....
And a girl too, not that it should be different but to me it is.

I am of the same constitution. How a guy is violent to a woman is beyond me. Even during a rage.....

I hope there is more information given on the incident.

Six against one...What actually happened?

I hope a news ban is not implemented.

What a terrible waste of humanity.

Terrible news. Thoughts and prayers to all who are affected by this.

Such a sad commentary on society that someone would feel so compelled to commit an atrocity like this.

Crazy! I wonder what set it off. Regardless, it's a terrible tragedy.

Sympathy for the victims families of course.

However, I would like to point out something.
Many people on this thread speak to some kind of downfall of society or the ill of today's youth. Make no mistake, we live in, most likely the safest time in history.
Murder and and crime rates are lower than they were in the 60's and 70's.
In today's media driven world we are bombarded with tragedy everyday so it feels like the world is going to hell, but it's not.

Once again, my deepest sympathy for this who mourn.

Surely a knife ban would have stopped this.

Perhaps they tried to jump him?

Perhaps he's a nut?

Great post.

I've wondered if society is going downhill but I think we just hear about these things more now than in the past. North American media focuses on the negative, and we eat it up.

Stories like this make my heart heavy. I don't know the details, but what I do know is these killings were senseless and will leave a large swath in many people's lives. Condolences to the victims families and friends.

Geesh, the Calgary Herald is reporting that multiple sources have stated that the suspect is the son of a senior Calgary Police officer........ No name released that I've seen so far

Alcohol involved

My neighbors son goes to U of C.
I was talking to his younger brother last night.
It makes me cringe to think that a 19 year old could be laying on a slab.

Many lives get ruined over someone with mental issues. Lack of ability to reason.
Probably had family issues growing up.
Maybe dad was never around cause he worked out of town 300 days a year.

Could be any number of reasons.
But I am leaning towards way too much alcohol in his system.
5 counts of manslaughter. 4 years for each life. Time off for finding god and behaving while in the slammer.

Come on guys, you know the drill in this country....
With any luck, the guy is from another country and we can punt him home. Never to be heard from again until he jumps off a bridge like Ms. McConnell did when she was sent back home to Australia?

I hate waking up to hear about this type of news.
Condolences to the families involved.

What a horrible senseless tragedy. So many families destroyed.

It is hard fighting back the lump in the throat.

Holy Crap , scary story , hit a little to close to home for me ... I live about 2 miles from this house, have a 19 year old daughter who I knew to be at a girl friends house in Brentwood last night. when I last talked to Sydney ( as I drove her to work prior to the lunch hour ) she talked about it being Bermuda Shorts day and that she would likely go to one of the bar patios and or to a house party with some friends and probably crash at her friends house.
It wasn't until this morning that I caught the news of this story and was in a panic to get a hold of Syd . no answer ... 5 min ..10 mins then finally get call from her . " what's up dad " . All is good , few new gray hairs though.
I , at this point in time can't possibly imagine being on the receiving end of the phone calls that went out to the parents/family of those five loved ones.
My heart goes out to all involved .

I was never one to blame television but I will blame this on the show The Following,, which main theme is random stabbing by impressionable young well bred youth. If you think about shooting on TV, it's so common that his has no emotion in it anymore. There are other shows like Criminal Minds or Hannibal but those shows are murders of an absurd nature. Hop on CTV and watch the last 4 episodes of The Following, or this season. Then add the theatrics of the eclipse last night (that is when it was called in to the police).
We've witnessed a drinking game that went viral for a bit, who's not to say that there is an online club following The Following?

It is also ranked as Calgary's largest mass killing.

Just a thought.

At the very least the suspect is in custody....and provided he lives on this earth long enough to offer up a "why I did it"....then we will know what goes through the mind of a sick individual.

"A young man who attended a house party Monday night returned to the home hours after the night ended in unthinkable violence, with five dead and one man in police custody."

With this statement it looks like this will be 1st degree murder.

I feel for the families of this tragedy.

The victims included a 22-year-old man from Priddis, a 23-year-old woman from Calgary, two 23-year-old men and one 27-year-old man, all from Calgary.

Police Chief Rick Hanson confirmed the suspect arrested in what he called the "worst mass murder in Calgary's history" is the son of a veteran Calgary police officer.

Why were they described as "youths" they are all adults IMHO....

If it helps you sleep at night you can blame a TV show.

It's much more likely this is an individual with some form of severe mental health issues.

Focus should be on a tragedy and many impacted families losing promising young kids.

Go watch the show and tell me what you think what the running theme is (not the show but the theme),, like I said, just a thought.

He was a Law student at the University,, he'll get the best defense due in part to his father, and sleep his days away at a mental health institution. Children of cops (tenured cops at that, don't go to regular jail).

I question any individuals intellect that allows their constitution to be swayed by a mere TV show.....
