cleaning aluminum checkerplate

I have just had my stock trailer painted and want to clean the checkerplate before I reinstall it. Who has a tried and true method?

if its pitted and oxidized not much will touch it. However I just purchased a brand sparkling new 5x10 foot sheet for 145 bucks. I thought that was dirt cheap considering it looks like a million. Just a thought if your handy / tools. It rips nicely with table saw or skill saw, grinder or jigsaw for the rest. hth chain

Not too many things I hate more in this world than aluminum checker plate. If it's pitted, and it probly is, you'll never get it to look as good as the rest of your trailer. Put new stuff on, and in a year it looks terrible too. Get some thin gauge smooth stainless, rivet it on with stainless rivets, and walk away proud!
