Default The "spot" part of the stalk

We were out recently north west of swan hills doing spot and stalk for bears, didn't get time to scout the area at all before hand. I had some people tell me just to drive the oil roads and glass pipelines and green road ditches and "just put on miles and time and you'll see 'em" ...well, we put on about 400km of oil roads and saw 3 bear, which I was happy with. Even tho I was using archery tackle it did feel a bit like the road hunters I so despise during deer season Anyways just wondering what methods most guys use to spot the bears initially. Waking pipelines?sitting on a cutline for an evening? Glassing from high points? Up there it seems most pipelines are put in right along side the road, which seems to lend better to just driving around and glassing? Is this what most guys are doing in this type of area? Anyways, just trying to wrap my head around "hunting" from inside a truck, even though I still have to put the sneak on them. Also, I'm not talking about trophy quality here, just the best way to increase the amount of bears you see.

Even a high bear density is low compare to deer and others. You have to cover a lot of ground, so truck and quads are the best way. If you hunt in the mountains or significant hills in some area of the foothills, you can find high ground and glass, but for the most part, I only walk on green abandon roads or pipeline for a short distance, no point wasting to much time in a small area that maybe doesn't have any bear.
