I live about a 1/4 mile from a creek and every fall I will get a ruffed grouse move into my yard. I have a few miniature crab apples here so there is some good feed some years. Some years the bird will be tame enough to let you get within a few feet, some years they will flush when they see you, some years you barely get to see them.

Been a tough year down south for this guy...……..4 grouse to hand in 32 hunting hours, have only saw one group of ruffies. It's all been singles, past couple seasons have been pretty fruitful though.

1 I got last weekend was eating willow buds. 6 days left though

Gotta love the fresh air, exercise, and peace & quiet

ya its been an off year for grouse in 406

I have seen mainly only seen singles.
Only one time did me and a buddy see a group of 2 or 3.

I'll let them rest this year. Haven't gone out much.
Hoping for an uptick in the population next year.

Default Grouse

I agree with 1stLand about 406 this year. Last year I found a lot spruce grouse, but the ruffs are down right now. Not to date myself, but I remember spending Thanksgiving 1978 at our friend place at Slave Lake. We took out our friends truck down a gravel road and shot a ruff about every 50 yards. It was stupid. Those were the days.
