Cat, not that I agree or disagree with the OP, but how can a fly be considered bait?? The definition states "an attractant or organism (alive or dead), with scent or flavour", if your interpretation was accurate, then all fly fisherman are fishing with bait??

If fishing in closed waters without hooks is ok then I'm going grizzly bear hunting but I'm only going to use blanks.

Agree this thread is pointless...

You may be interested to know that sailfish are often caught on a "mop" , a fabric lure with no hook. The strands get tangled around the teeth of the fish.

I am aware there are no sailfish in Alberta.

I've also caught a northern pike that were just wrapped up in my flies not hooked just teeth wrapped around the material
