I have only ever fished the bow twice. Once a few years ago when Metallica was in town and that is when I caught the white.

The other time was last winter and it was pretty slushy so it was tough fishing.

Both trips were to fish creek park. Hopefully I can arrange a few trips up there this winter to explore a bit more.

Default The Go-To

Today was awesome. I found the best combination of hooks to be a size 8 SJW with a red size 18 midge nymph.

In 3 hours, I landed 10 rainbows and this beast.
Like always, the rainbows fought like demons. I just wanted to get them back in the water. (I know---no pics; therefore, it did not happen).

And then there was this girl...

I know that it is hard to put to scale, but I have average sized hands, and the head is about the width of my wading boot.

Thanks for the help everyone. I took advantage of every warm day that I could. I really like fly fishing in the winter.

if you want to fish the BOW in the summer let me know, I used to know every inch of it in the NW before the floods we used to float it with inner tubes and snorkling masks to find the best places.

My net is 22", and this fish had to be scooped to get in the net. I am guessing 24" with the tail pinched.

The fins did look a little beat up. The pectoral and dorsal looked fine. I think the rear fins might take a little collateral damage from spawning. There was no indication of kype, and think that the female digs the redd, right?

I was in the south of highway 22x, on the west side of the river, by the concrete factory (or whatever one would call it).

I had to cast a lot further than I am used to, and I did miss a lot of fish because i could not set the hook effectively.

Right on, yep, could be from spawning I suppose. I spent a few afternoons watching browns on their redds this fall and I don't think I saw a fish over 21-22" which was disappointing. Was hoping to see some brutes. Might have to go further south than where I was though. Also, fish tend to look a bit smaller to me when they're in the water.
