Default Pics Fernie New Years, Weekend Success!

A great weekend, a little downhill skiing, X-country skiing, and bestly a lot of fishing. Battled cold, snow, rain, pie ice, and leaky waders but managed to land trout everyday. No better way to finish/start a year than landing fish with the fly rod. Had the entire river for myself, got a lot of strange looks from passers by thinking I was nuts. They are probably right.

Slow drifting small nymph's (#14-16) and larva lace worms in the deep holes.

Good to see you were able to get out and into some fish.

Wish I could have made it out there and met up with you.

Is the Elk open all year around or is there some closures?

Congrats on the fishing. Looks like it was a great way to spend new years.

Oh ok thanks,

Plenty of time to arrange a trip over the winter then.

I used to fish it in the winter all the time. Would go out there to ski some weekends and try get at least a few hours of fishign in as well. However I find it hard enough now to justify the extra charge in the summer time never mind for a couple hours of fishig in the winter.

It's been over ten years since I flyfished in Fernie, used to know every hole on the elk, wigwam and bull rivers. Heading back down there this summer with the family and will definately be hitting the water. Beautiful place!

agreed. with the exception of the open water part. i'll sit on the ice until the very last day i can't get on, then pick up the fly rod again. not saying the big stixs are stored away all winter, i just enjoy the ice while it's around as well. great pics Duck. looks like a great time.
