Please use caution with canoes on big lakes
While fishing today at Pigeon Lake Provincial Park, the fish were biting well, and by noon a cold wind came so we decided to go home. We were fishing in two boats and I was ahead of my friends Andrew and Josh. At the time we saw two canoes going 200 meters out onto the lake. Ten minutes later, I was on shore and turned around to see my friend hauling the canoe people out of the water. The young kid in the canoe had a life jacket, but the parents didn't. They were holding onto the canoe and wouldn't have lasted for more than a few minutes longer because the water was 10C. My friend definitively saved this family's bacon.
Be careful with canoes in big cold lakes and always wear life jackets!
