Default Sylvan lake fishing update

Hello all, I just got back from fishing Sylvan lake and I couldn't believe how deep I had to go to find them. We were around 25-30 feet and worms are the ticket! Another fisherman was using a red wire worm and was also nailing the whites out that deep.

Whites are sensitive to temperature, but MORE sensitive to low oxygen.

That is why there are big die offs every year at Pigeon. In the AM the fish move shallow, and then the algae blooms taking up oxygen, and the fish in the top layer and in the shallows die and bloat.

On the up side, there has been a black bear in the water at the townsite at Calling Lake where the dead fish wash up. Two weeks ago he was sitting on my partly submerged dock in the evening. Between him and the pelicans, nothing is going to waste.

All the same, glad to see someone figuring it out! I have yet to get everyone to give up on walleye fishing to give whitefish a try.

Hey how does a guy catch a white fish is Calling Lake? With absolutely no success, I've given up. I'd try again, but don't have the slightest idea of how deep, and what to use. We had some big white fish wash up on shore at north beach with the walleye, but I've never caught one. It sure would be a bonus to able to have them as another species to target. I think we had some 5-6 lbs that the bears cleaned up before they touch the walleye. They like them better I guess.
